do you want lemmy to have a different userbase and culture than reddit
or NO
mine is yes, since i dont want the fediverse users to bring their former platform’s bad habits with them
I would like it to, but I don’t think it’s gonna.
Lemmy is going to have the culture it has.
Forced culture is what shaped all the failed platforms like Reddit, I don’t think I would like that.
Yeah, I agree, let’s force a non forced culture, with beans and hookers!
In trying to figure out if you misremembered the phrase “blackjack and hookers” or if '“beans and hookers” is some other reference, all I found were pages for Boston sex workers.
I just fused beans from Lemmy with the blackjack and hookers, instead of saying like beans and deans.
Blackbeans and hookers
What people hate about reddit is what people hate about mobs. If Lemmy ever gets as big as reddit, it will suck just as much.
I hate this kind of talk. For me the point of the fediverse isn’t that it’s cool because it’s niche, but that it’s cool because it’s a solution to a systemic problem with Social Media. I want Lemmy to get big and messy and full of obnoxious people. I think that’s a GOOD thing. Because then they’ll be on the fediverse, and not on a platform owned by a single billionaire
The fediverse won’t survive that kind of growth in its current form.
Federation requires mutual trust. As soon as there are enough users to make it a target, and a sophisticated threat appears, it will be impossible to avoid manipulation.
lemmy.world will defedrate from everyone.
I don’t think this is “bad”, just a predictable future of the fediverse.
The mob already exists here
Yes, it is here sometimes and in part; on Reddit it is like the God of Spinoza–ever present in all things.
that’s just facebook talking in you to keep the competition small
People suck. They’re going to suck here like they suck in reddit.
The people will create the culture naturally and naturally it will evolve over time and time again.
Lemmy already has several cultures independent of Reddit.
Beans, jeans, no pooping…
Having migrated a couple times, I’ve found that instances have their own culture and I don’t see anything wrong with that.
Thankfully there’s different instances
doesn’t stop people from flooding other instances with their instances culture
You don’t have you embrace Star Trek or Linux to hang out here. Not right away, anyway.
I think the fediverse is a series of individuals who will create microcultures. we will not all be interacting with everyone and will be what we will be.
Most of us are here because reddit is shit and unusable. Why would we want that here?

Funhole is great.
Funhole fucks.
Thats fair. Maybe. I act repulsive on purpose. You know I poop and ape. it is hard to sell me. I am low value by design. Preparing for the future where we are smashing the robots. The marketurds can scrape these ape nuts. You give me slop I throw that shit right back. Negitivity is the game taking dumps on the technoturds is my game. Fuck duh gipity. The gipity everywhere.
that is not made by AI
*this
If ape sorry for being a dick
I don’t know, it looks a bit weird. It uses letters like an ai would.

for what it’s worth I would rather have a false positve hahaha 🫡 … It might just be a marketurder. The techbros taking notes… When hexbear blocked down votes I was like… thats on sum libturd tech bro sheet. The world is as it is. Techbros think they can control society. These edward bernays turd babys gonna see what it is to be human one day. Thank gawd all men die.
Just let people be themselves. I think that the open source nature of the threadiverse will keep the culture pretty level headed. No algorithms trying to promote rage for clicks. It’s gonna be fine.
really, then why is most of the top posts in the all feed nothing but ragebait?
I guess I’ve blocked those users, or channels or instances.
A few strategic blocks made this place way nicer, for me, overnight.
I don’t want a copy of Reddit’s culture on Lemmy, but I think Lemmy’s culture will be similar because of the interaction format and because a sizable number of Lemmings I presume use Reddit and Lemmy both regularly. So it will be up to how close the viewer looks to determine if they seem the same or distinct.
I think one thing I don’t see much on Lemmy are the very tired 3+ nested comment chains that don’t add conversational value, like “and my axe!”. I’ve only seen it very occasionally, and usually in good joking taste, for example the trope “[term OP used] means this, you probably were thinking of [also incorrect word]”.
yeah, there is less ‘dad joke’ or ‘pop culture reference’ humor here.
but people didn’t send you death threats over Linux on reddit, like they do here.
I don’t really like the parroting of in-jokes thing. Probably any sufficiently long lived large group will probably have in-jokes, but reddit-isms always grated the most.
