Anyway…
Hello thanks for visiting my profile.
For any picture posts I make with the [OC] tag, I provide a license for you to use my photo under the terms of CC-BY-SA-4.0. You may DM me for questions.

Anyway…
Edit: Don’t hesitate or wait for my validation, live life the way you want, with as much or as little modern tech in it as you please.
Have you found ways to reconnect with technology?
My rule is that I interact with technology on my own terms and volition. I get upset if I get led or ‘tricked’ into an app or consuming some form of media. I access tech when I want to and am looking for something, and try to reject the idea that content should come to me in a steady stream. If I am watching brainrot it will be because I want to click and scroll through brainrot videos, not because it was the next one to play after the video I actually wanted to watch.
If you want bliss at this endless beach, build your own little FOSS sandcastle. If it washes away, build it somewhere else, and find other people that like to build FOSS sandcastles.
If it’s not topic specific, try this one?
I get it, even with link posts and memes sometimes I’m not sure if I’m posting it in the right places, or if I have to trade off potential traction with how closely related it is.
A solution I’ve employed sometimes is to post to two spots:
That way you don’t feel forced to only participate in the popular instances and communities.
E.g. [email protected] then [email protected]
E.g.2: [email protected] then [email protected]
E.g.3: [email protected] then [email protected]

I 'member when headphones were just a copper wire to a magnet dressed in plastic, and none of this garbage required memory. Can we go back to that age? Thanks.

The single banana turned into a box of bananas! Excellent!

You asked for authoritarian, I cited something that defines a different concept.
Umberto Eco, in 1995, laid out 14 common charactistics that characterize what he describes as ur-fascism, fascist societies independent of the time and place.
Quick answer is that memes and shitposts get upvoted more than discussion, which is why it appears in your Hot/Top/Active sorted feed.
Look at my post history if you like. My top scoring ones are memes and the more discussion and text only posts tend to get only a bit of traction. I think the number of votes is also affected by how many people are subscribed, people cannot upvote it if they or their instance don’t see it.
If you want a “mostly discussion” feed with less memes and shitposts, try looking around for discussion focused communities (my local one is [email protected]), subscribe to a bunch and then make your default page the “Subscribed” feed. That way you can switch between what’s trending on Lemmy in general (All/Local) and what new posts are coming up with your realm of interest (Subscribed).

Some person on the fediverse has made an open source PDF editor… their other posts say its browser based. I haven’t tried it but this seems to fit your request.

Xitter comments indicate that the PCs should be of sufficient spec to achieve a good sell value. So if it’s not Win 11 compatible then Sofmap can’t price it in hopes to resell them according to the social media responder.

Slo-pilot or Slop-a-lot works for me.

Nadella, go ahead, keep trying to meet your slop metrics and slop KPIs. You’re doing a great job moving people to Linux.

I have a Coolermaster AIO, it’s nice, if you can pair it with a low noise power supply (my RMX shift series I am very happy with so far over two years) and your case fans don’t whine, then you will have a pleasantly quiet experience on your desktop with most tasks up to light gaming. An air cooler with as big a radiator you can fit may work just as well.
Performance wise I think they aren’t too different, there are premium and budget types for both liquid and air coolers.

Can you filter keywords to block very specific things you don’t want to see? If a post matches those words you can make it so that post won’t show up at all.
Issue is of false triggers, you won’t be able to see what got missed. Examples: mastodon would filter out someone’s post about someone being a dick to the cashier at the grocery store if the keyword is ‘dick’, and plenty of false triggers for ‘fuck’. So filter out words like ‘penis’ and ‘sex’ instead.

As soon as I read his trademark word I knew it was Doctorow, awesome! I’ll give this a full listen sometime later.
Have never even really noticed them in west coast Canada’s 4L milk jugs (215 mL/7.25 oz more than a gallon). I’m in bagged milk land for the holidays, so I can’t check right now.

I prefer FOSS over Proprietary software for my personal life. I look for FOSS alternatives first and only if it is extremely unsuitable or missing crucial features I’ll go for the non-FOSS versions.
For work, since other people are paying me to use proprietary software, I will use whatever. In a professional capacity I am publicly searchable anyway.

That’s where I think Bazzite really shines… I didn’t need the terminal to setup all of the normal stuff at all, and new apps I discovered right from the start menu so I didn’t need to go far at all.

How much money is coming in every month (salary + other income)? How much money is going out (bills, food, subscriptions, other recurring expenses)? How much are you putting towards short and long term savings each month?
Once you’ve set aside those categories, the remainder is what you can spend without worrying about needing to take away from your more essential obligations.
I’m a miser, so I’d think hard about whether I really need a MacBook. If I felt I’d make do with the PCs I had, and wouldn’t open the Macbook much then it’s not worth, but if it would be my daily driver then it would be. Divide the price by the number of hours you’d use it. And then just spend less discretionally for a couple months until you build up the buffer again.

Maybe in gaming is where we will see it first, before other software and webapps.
If the DRAM shortage is long and protracted, perhaps more dumb appliances will make their return, but that’s just a pipe dream of mine.
Filters exist in Piefed so I hear, and you can already block instances and communities and users you feel are too American focused.
