Moths generally make you feel better than murder.

From an outside perspective. From an “oh, I just murdered a shitton of empanadas” perspective, still probably better. Fuck now I want like 100 empanadas

I pay tax so that someone else can figure out who murdered who.

Please, I only have one life and I don’t want to spend it thinking about miserable things.

Ok, @[email protected]. Chief propagator of moth memes. 😏

But seriously, it’s a naive person who doesn’t understand that every single day, somewhere in the world, the most horrible shit you can imagine is going down at any given moment. That’s just a fact. Our job is to help when we can and deal with it when we can’t. One of the way we have or dealing with it when we can’t is through humor and there’s not a damned thing wrong with that.

There’s been innocent people getting killed every day for the last ten thousand years. What would you scrolling through news stories on the Internet actually accomplish?

What is this supposed to mean? Is the implication that for the past ten thousand years, everyone should have lived in constant misery, thinking of nothing but the suffering of innocents, without a moment to spare for joy or silliness?

Or are you trying to twist their words to suggest that the suffering of innocents now isn’t important because it’s been happening for 10k years? Because that was clearly not the message being made. The closest I could imagine is they may be pointing out that some treat pointing out innocents suffering as a fad, where people all of a sudden care and can’t believe that anyone else can do or care about anything else (and will burn out and stop caring once the fad is done, whether the issue has been resolved or not).

Either way, if you spend your whole time doomscrolling and never leave yourself a space for moth memes (or whatever), you will be no help to anyone and live in impotent misery.

Basically, moth memes are self care.

I am not saying the moth memes do not have their place. I am saying that having innocents dying for 10 thousand years does not mean it’s acceptable to allow it just because of the length of time that it has been happening.

Wether it’s acceptable or not is irrelevant to scrolling through social media or the existence of memes, moth or otherwise. Seeing some memes after years of people endlessly posting about the various conflicts, (because you are tripping hard of you think no one has been talking about the genocide on this website…) doesn’t imply anyone thinks its “acceptable” to allow it (or is allowing it?).

My point was you reading news articles won’t change anything. So why read them?

Are you going to do anything but wallow in depression? Just doomscrolling all day?

Memes about the suffering of the innocent don’t actually help either. If your feeds were just a firehose of misery you are ultimately powerless to change, all that would do is hurt you.

I’m not saying we should be ignoring the wrongs of the world. All I’m saying is that there is a time and a place for moths.

it’s a defense mechanism. it’s so much easier to participate in pointless meaningless meme-of-the-moment exchanges than it is to face the un-fun reality that the world around you is burning

unfortunately pointing this out to them will only make them dig their heels in

They are not mutually exclusive, you can face it, then realize there isn’t much you can do (I’m not American) then you see some moths.

there isn’t much you can do

what gave you that idea? perhaps the fact that no one’s doing anything but posting moths?

        enjoy your moths

          what gave you that idea?

The current state of western democracy?

In my personal opinion, one of the most effective things you can do is collective bargaining. And on that note, imo not enough people have been convinced that somethings got to change. You have to have that consensus before real change.

so…what, then? roll over and “ohwellnothingicando” and call it a day?

I never said that, but imo you shouldn’t feel bad for lack of action or inability to change things. You should do what you can, but if you need to look at some moths enjoying some lamps, that’s totally fair.

Our struggles are like a marathon, not a 100 meter dash, you got to find joy when you can.

i understand this sentiment, i really do. but people are being kidnapped, deported, MURDERED.

i’m glad that the moths make you feel better.

all it does for me is to reinforce the impulse that not only are we as a people just fucked, but also we as a people can’t be bothered to deal with the fact that we’re fucked

again, i’m not telling anyone what to do. except: enjoy your moths

Weaponized Memery is the wave of the future, the Pokemon just hasn’t full evolved yet!

    Beans -> Jeans -> Moth -> [???]

I don’t know how many forms it has… Has anyone tried using an evolution stone? Walked 10,000 steps with a Moth companion? Evolved Jeans with an empty pokeball in the party?

If you only saw moth memes and not how many starving people were murdered today while trying to get aid, that’s on you.
