I’m a guitarist, a Game of Thrones fan, and a Dinklage fan, so I AM the audience for this joke, and I thought it was amusing on every level.

Not sure I’m down with the spirit behind this joke… Thought I left this kind of humor behind on Reddit. We can do better than this.

I think Dinklage would be more offended at people tiptoeing around his height like it’s a sensitive and embarrassing matter.

He knows he’s short, we know he’s short. He’s not insecure he jokes all the time. It would be offensive if the joke was making fun at his appearance / height. It was more focused on the shield.

The joke IS making fun of his height. The shield looks like a pick, but the joke is that that “pick” looks so big because he is tiny.

Obviously an exaggeration but the joke is indeed using his height.

It’s such a silly joke. It’s not “omg hahaha look at how short he is” it’s “omg hahaha that shield does look like a guitar pick now!” and then you imagine him 3cm tall and it’s just an absurd image

What does that even mean, I say that ironically sometimes, but I think some ppl genuinely seem to think of reddit as some other culture, maybe it’s just the same ppl being extra polite because they got banned and are scared of it happening again rather than them actually thinking diffferently

I mean in a way it is just reddit light. Not as bad obviously, but there are a lot of people who just want another reddit so bad. Even the subs stay the same to some degree. One of the most cringe parts of reddit was that a lot of the subreddits were called …porn because porn is le epic. And they just kept that because these subreddits became really big. And now you have a new start here and people just name these subs here foodporn too for example. Really puzzling to me, but hey.

I can’t believe that people are getting offended by a mild joke that even Dinklage would probably think is funny. He knows he’s short, you know.

People with characteristics that get made fun of, all know they have these characteristics, they live with them every day. They just want it to be normal, and not have it pointed out all the time. They don’t mind when someone notices something obvious, they mind when the response is mean-spirited or ignorant.

Dinklage holding a shield is nothing, until it gets compared to a guitar pick. That’s not mean-spirited, it doesn’t make fun of him, or present him as less human, it simply highlights a physical difference that is funny IN THAT CONTEXT.

I would never make fun of a small person for their size alone (their politics is fair game), but come on, some things are just objectively amusing, and this is one of them.

I thought it was just so silly when you suddenly see the guitar pick. Lighthearted joke.

I don’t understand how this can be offensive unless you are looking for a reason to insult him.

An insulting joke would be more along the lines of comparing him to someone else or making fun of his shortcomings (lol) in a belittling way (that one was not intentional genuinely)

      1. It’s a rather lame joke. The premise has been used a thousand times already.
      2. It’s at the expense of someone’s disability. Ask yourself how often Peter Dinklage has seen this joke in his life.

You can joke about everything, but at least make a fucking effort.

Make jokes at the expense of the disabled, races, transgenders, gays or religious people, and you will be rightly criticized and shamed for it.

Make jokes at the expense of people who are ugly, fat or short in stature, somehow that’s still okay with way too many people…

Pretty sure he’d be much more offended if you called him disabled than about this joke.

You can make jokes about absolutely everything. But if you do it at the expense of others, and the touchier and more sensitive the subject, the funnier the joke has to be - so you better make sure it’s fucking hilarious and original.

People tend to miss that part. Especially the one about short people is always the same old punch line - the one along the lines of this post.

I’m not offended that OP made a joke about Peter Dinklage. I’m offended that it was a lame joke that I’ve seen a thousand times before.
