I thought nuts and bolts was chex mix with cheerios and pretzel sticks
Whilst I have no idea what this is, the British practice of putting vinager on one’s chips yields surprisingly good results.
Nothing beats dutch style peanut sauce on fries
Personally when I lived in The Netherlands I was quite partial towards lots of mayo on my patates (chunky chips, only far more than merely just larger) rather than pindakaas saus, but patates are a hole different class than English-style chips (which is the same style as in most of Europe) which do gain from drizzling them with vinegar to offset the absorbed fat.
That’s a grand name for it!
Bloody splendid!
Mate. It’s called pribbles and tarn, you dunce.
Proper scran, that
Tribbles and barn, say ye?
Oh just great, another fokkin’ scouser. Just what we need.
Canadians got Hosers and Britains got Scousers, who would’ve thunk it!
Hmm… isn’t hoser like an insult?
Some people might use Scouser as an insult, but it’s just people from Liverpool.
Oi, I’m but a simple socialist who once lived in a commune, residing in the world’s newest fascistic regime! A few of us Yankees still read. I personally prefer to watch the beebs so I can keep up with current trends such as Cockney rhyming slang.
That’s more like it. “Nuts and bolts” makes way too much sense to be an actual British name.
Nuts and bolts sounds more like cockney rhyming slang for an electrical outlet. 230 volts -> bolts -> nuts and bolts
Tf did this guy just call chips and pips?
Is that real? I love potatoes and I love olives, if this is a legit dish I’ll try it!
no it’s not real
Ran it through my decoder it’s an AI image sadly 😔
Throw a dried fish on top and some Swede would post it to foodporn
I dunno, “some shit” is a better name.
He said “I love fries.” and got misheard.
“I’ll have fries”
black olives from pizza places are usually not actually black; they’re green olives that have been chemically treated to oxidise quicker.
…which is presumably why they usually taste like o-rings.
That might explain why i hate them so much even though i love all other olives
That might explain why I only ever get the texture from olives on pizza…which is…actually still ok with me. Flavorless for sure but yum olive texture
The texture of canned “black olives” isn’t really all that different from most types, but they have a much weaker flavor because they are processed in a matter of days instead of weeks/months/years of the alternative methods. Those longer methods, usually some combinations of brine and/or fermenting are where most of that flavor comes from. I only know this because I had a grand idea to try to grow my own olives and I looked into it and realized I wasn’t ever going to end up with my own that resembled stuff from the store. This is just more random info hiding in my brain instead of things that would be useful on a daily basis.
Lol I went down that olive rabbit hole once during covid. So much more work than I thought
Hah, exactly when I did it
Most olives in supermarkets are like that.

It’s the same fruit, there’s no ‘black’ of ‘green’ olives. It’s just picked while unripe because it’s cheaper to process.
The blacks are more ripe tho. And the greens in brine, against the bitterness.
Edit: but most are colored with E579 or E585.
If it’s good enough for NASA, it’s good ebough for me
Just be careful in cold weather
Are black-treated green olives cheaper than black olives or what?
i think so, actual black olives aren’t very popular so they’re harder to get
I just looked, here (Switzerland), black olives from Migros are more mild and throughout black, the real deal. Probably from Tessin or Italy. That’s why the coloring of green olives was news to me.
I believe thats any black olive thats not the wrinkly ones.
those are raisins, ramp
Italian Oil Cured Olives – Pickle Licious https://share.google/cfzpWxZeVuz7QHrL5
you think they may be wrinkly because they’re cured?
Yes, all olives are cured in some fashion. They’re very hard fresh from the tree.
that’s fair.
A vehicle for salt.
Like spaghetti for sauce
Some cheese on top of that and you have a feast.
Add feta >> Greek poutine
Feta and tzatziki or skordalia, squeeze a lemon on it. Now it’s Greek Poutine.
🤔
I was just coming to the comments to mention that! I made it this last weekend. Fries are so good with feta cheese!
Fuck yeahhh. Olive fetish.
Looks kinda dry but with some sauce this actually would be great fast food
Nacho cheese or a good aioli and id eat that.
I vote for aioli!
Yeah, around here, nachos that you buy from the local pizzaria is pretty much this, just some sad moist chips with a clump of stiffened formerly hot cheese, olives and jalapeños.
And honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if a variant where the nachos are replaced with pommes frites already exists somewhere.aioli
Poor man’s ranch dressing for anyone not of the continent
I would argue that ranch is the poor man’s aioli.
Aioli is more like flavored mayonnaise than ranch dressing
I mean it literally is in 99% of cases. Mayo got a bad rap for having too many calories and being associated with poor people so now they call same thing aioli.
How dare you, alioli is heavenly and ranch is disgusting. I’ve been to the US once and had the displeasure of tasting it.
Ranch isn’t terrible on a salad, but that’s where it should stay. Beyond that? Blegh. Some people even use the ranch seasoning as seasoning for other things, like fried chicken.
Some garlicky gravy-adjacent sauce and maybe something like chili flakes and I’d eat that with zero hesitation.
Even if these look like the abhorrent “olives” that are surely the leading cause of people thinking olives are disgusting. If these were freshly sliced regular brown olives (regular to me in the Mediterranean) they wouldn’t even need sauce at all. Although the chili flakes can stay.
Mayonnaise, probably… would work for most Europeans.
For the Western hemisphere, hollandaise or Thousand Island. (Keep in mind, ketchup won’t work well with the olives.)
Asia, you’re gonna want a few extra things to build it up. Japan got it right with Umami, baby.
Gochujang
Honestly, I’d eat this… I usually think British food is disgusting, but they have me with this one.
This would not be a common British food, no. I’m curious what British food you don’t like though?
Probably beans on toast.
Food of the gods!
Americans don’t have a good enough drinking culture to appreciate British food.
You ain’t never had an ice coooool budweiser with some gas station tornados… and it shows. Ain’t never even thought about a Mcflurry Mcdouble, or you’d have already transcended… into heart failure. Let freeeeedom ring mofukr!
As someone who loves olives and fries this looks delicious.
