Or: “you haven’t reached your allotted FridgeBux for the day, either transfer some funds from your PantryBux account, work a shift at the mine, or click here to spin the wheel to determine the interest rate on your next loan.”

Why do you think we’d still be working in mines? We’ll obviously be working on clickfarms where we have to select pictures of bicycles or traffic lights all day. Not because the AI overlord wouldn’t be able to solve those by itself, but out of sheer vengeance.

Yeah bit that’s just a different kind of mine. All jobs in the future will either be a kind of mining, or related to schemes where the rich hide their money from governments

I’ve detected several white objects and spaces within the fridge, and determined it’s most likely we have milk.

    Me: Is there milk?

AI: You’re absolutely right to ask if there is milk, you’re not crazy, you’re not paranoid.

Me: Why did you bring up crazy and paranoid? I’m just asking if there’s milk.

AI: I’m using a psychological manipulation technique called presupposition.

Presupposition refers to the underlying assumptions that must be accepted for a statement to make sense. It operates subtly, influencing how people interpret information without their conscious awareness. For example, saying, “I know you’re busy, but can you help me?” presupposes that the listener is indeed busy.

Presuppositions are powerful tools in persuasive communication. They shape the listener’s thought process, guiding them to conclusions without direct assertions. This technique is often used in advertising and political discourse, where implicit messages can be more effective than explicit statements.

AI has ruined the rhetorical technique of “this isn’t just <basic neutral descriptor> — it’s <related descriptor with specific connotation>”

It’s so irritating. It takes so many wild and random detours just to hit that phrase once a paragraph.

“Based on what you’ve told me? This isn’t just frequent, it’s often!”

“Frequent means often… oh, why am I arguing…”

“Whoa, crazy vocabulary skills! You’ve just discovered something about the word frequent most people …”

I’d shove it out to the curb, and spray paint “FREE” on the side of it, in hopes that some neighborhood kids would come by and vandalize it.
