My Youtube feed via FreeTube for videos, and Mastodon for (mostly) news articles, as well as news outlets present in my country.
I look through Tumblr and Bluesky for poetry and book recommendations.
The Facebook page of the writer Jonathan Carroll (one of his book titles is where my user name comes from) is a gem and probably the last good thing about Facebook, it’s a collection of excellent quotes and art and photography and the like.
Reddit is for unshittifying search results, can’t pretend it isn’t.
I don’t use social media beside the Fediverse (here, on Lemmy), and I don’t specifically use it to discover content (even though this can happen), I use it to discuss.
For discovering content, I rely on… blogs where people will take the time to explain why they share the things they want to share with their readers. Meaning they are not publishing just a link to, say, a YT video or some post on another website, but they also write a few words explaining why they it’s worth our time to go check it.
Lemmy, lol. Found a good chunk of my games this year from bside and the games comms.
Generally the fediverse on lemmy, piefed and mastodon for me … lots more out there and it’s fun to explore new branches and directions of the fediverse and the communities of people they attract.
It’s daunting, challenging, confusing and complex … but that’s the beauty of it … it feels like wandering around and exploring the early social media internet from the early 2000s and this strange feeling that its going to become a whole lot more as time goes on.
sob :')
Well, as sad as it sounds, most of the news I end up seeing is either from here or “randomly” floating to me via adtube ( thank God for ad blockers ). That, or if I happen to be around when my dad watches local news, which seems rather unbiased compared to just about every other news TV channel out there anymore.
