I don’t think you understand Roblox if you recommend Minecraft as a substitute. Roblox isn’t a Minecraft clone. It’s a platform like Steam. There are thousands of different games.
Most of them created from literal child labor and exploitation. Roblox as a platform is incredibly predatory and I don’t mean in a chomo way (though that too, sadly).
Yeah it’s child labor but at the same time it’s kids writing their own games and sharing it with their friends. It’s the same as a kids youtube channel where they build Lego to show off for their friends- which Google and Lego profit from.
Yeah, I’m conflicted too. It’s child labor but we’re stuck in capitalism. Lego profits off of children. Minecraft profits off of children. I’m sure there are independent games on Steam written by teenagers that Steam is taking their 30% cut from.
So there’s a Blender like CAD environment tied to a scripting language for those open source Minecraft clones that let you pick and place assets from a menu and then add code?
Every Roblox install installs this development tool. It’s ridiculous to compare it to the java programming needed to make a Minecraft mod.
And when you are done you hit “publish” and it uploads it to their servers ready for everyone to play.
MCreator and several other WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) style editors exist for Minecraft, yes. There are even educational versions of Minecraft that teach programming beyond using simple WYSIWYG tools, geared toward young children, officially made by MS.
MCreator is amazing but it still Minecraft. You can create your own items that are crafted with your own recipe or paint a mob to look like soemthing else. Again anyone suggesting Minecraft doesn’t understand that Roblox isn’t a Minecraft clone. It makes no sense to compare a single game to a platform. “Don’t play Nintendo, play Minecraft.” ???
It’s like suggesting that kids shouldn’t play Steam games because there’s Minecraft and they can make their own modded Minecraft.
It’s a mod for minecraft that gives you easy to use modding tools inside Minecraft, the way Roblox’s tools work inside of Roblox. “It’s still Minecraft” like the things made in Roblox aren’t still Roblox? 🤨
A platform isn’t a game. Minecraft is one game. Steam hosts many games. Nintendo hosts many games. There are Minecraft clones as games on the Roblox platform.
Recommending Minecraft as a substitute for Roblox is the same as recommending Minecraft as a replacement for Nintendo.
I don’t think you understand the full breadth and width of what modding is and can accomplish or what a platform actually is. Roblox is a single game as much as Minecraft is. Both can be used to make something entirely different than the original by modding it. Most games with mod tools or openly available source code can.
I’ve never seen a Minecraft mod that didn’t look like Minecraft. There are all sorts of rendering mods, game play changes, but its still Minecraft.
Do you really not understand the difference between Nintendo and Minecraft? You’ve never played any game other than Minecraft ever because you can mod Minecraft?

From which a multinational company is profiting heavily.
I love that kids can have a place where they can be creative and all but of a company profits of that, yeah, it’s child labor

Or the same as flash games from the early 2000s.
Flash games didn’t have a megacorp in the middle taking a cut on microtransactions. That’s a big difference.
Not from lack of trying. I think it might have happened if flash player hadn’t died
i tell people that roblox is a kid friendly garys mod clone
Kid friendly, except the predatory parts.
Friendlier* lol
ooh yea in fact the people behind gary’s mod is making s&box which is closer to be a roblox alternative
Nothing stopping kids from making games within Minecraft
Same reason goes for open source alternatives developed by the community
