Deus Ex has ben doublesnubbed now, first by Squenix, and then by Embracer.
They don’t seem to get that we do want more. Mankind Divided got hated on because Squenix tried to put fucking microtransactions in a full price single player story.
And that’s more than likely why Embracer isn’t bothering. In the land of Triple Ehh, if it isn’t going to make all the money, it isn’t good enough. So glad all those IP got sold off, they risked being ignored…
TBF, Eidos under Embracer had a game in progress, but it was one of the projects they cut when the saudis ended up not investing in them.
Embracer had bought up studios and started projects they didn’t yet have money to fund, and when that bit them in the ass, it was the studios and games that got the axe.
Almost like they were greedy morons who achieved nothing.
Oh for sure. Tons of studios would probably still exist, and a lot of people would still have jobs, had Embracer just not bought those studios.

The irony of putting corporate enshittification in a game that has a story loosely about the evils of capitalism (and the illuminati i guess) and the fans of that kind of story reacting appropriately to it is pretty fucking funny tho.
Eh personally Deus Ex is one of my favourite games of all time but none of the subsequent games interested me because they were much less freeform. Unless Warren Spector decides to do one himself I don’t think the series has much value to older gamers like myself, and I suspect they’ve probably done the analysis to suggest that the mainstream audience will be more receptive to whatever kind of thing is popular right now.
So they were trying to make a third game without Jenson when that’s exactly what was needed to bridge between him and JC Denton.
I’ll also never forgive Square for shelving the third game to chase money with the Avengers game that now no one remembers except to call hate on for bumping DX.
They also sold Tomb Raider alongside Deus Ex … Thief, Legacy of Kain …
Sold all of these and a few studios to focus on NFTs. Although I think their other reason was to focus on their “eastern” properties.
Also, no sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy. 😢

I actually know this connection from viewing comments on other sites. Check comments on something like wccftech and there’s a large cohort of folks always ready to blame “DEI” for everything wrong with gaming today. They seem to believe that the “woke hive mind” infiltrated the highest ranks of both gaming publishers and investment banks in order to speak the “woke virus”.
I wish I was making this up. It’s as dumb as it is toxic.
I don’t know if they believe it, and it’s not just gaming. I see it under any story about something bad happening. Some troll instantly says “DEI” because it’s the current buzzword, and it gets a reaction.
The problem is that is goes into the “sphere”. Click on one video and it feeds into many others.
I used to think it was a smaller section and then my streamer friends complain about “woke”. The thing that always gets me is when someone says: “I don’t mind a minority character as long as it makes sense for them to be there”. Oh right, minorities should explain our existence shall we? I would like to think that they mean when social commentary feels shoehorned or there’s corporate pandering (which I think we can have discussions about) … however, we don’t need to suffer from woke-paranoia just because someone doesn’t fit the mould. I remember the Star Trek Beyond “controversy” and when the scene happened I didn’t even register it because it was so forgettable to me.
I’ve been in arguments with friends about how “how many genders we have …” and I have to be like, there’s so few actual trans people and trans issues that are “in your face” to get as worked up as you guys are …

The money is there, the gaas exploitation isnt there with the fanbase. But if they cant fuck you over for an extra $5 in dlc sales, the $90 purchase price isnt worth it to them.
