Am I lucky or what. Built my first ever PC a few months ago before all this crap started. My only regret is going with 32gb ram instead of 64.
Built an AM4 NAS right around summer. My desktop is old but I also don’t really game that much off of my Steam Deck anymore. And so ends the era of oldschool home computing, I guess.
This is the kind of weird stuff that happens near the peak of a bubble.
So glad I don’t have money for a new PC for some years anyways 😂
I really dodged the bullet by upgrading my aging 2600X with an 5950X and filling the memory banks to 64GB on my AM4 platform half a year ago, I really hope that the current price level entices a few new players to enter the market.
Unfortunately, RAM production is not something you start up on a whim. There are only a few players and adding new capacity is a very long process. They won’t do that unless they’re convinced that the market will still be there in a couple of years.
I orderes a new 5700x 2 days ago fearing they might vanish forever as there are probably only stocks left.
I had one added for around 2 weeks in my amazon cart, but over here, in Spain, they went out of stock meanwhile, so I managed to order one from pccomponentes.com and I’m glad I did.
I still get to keep my 32 Gb DDR4 for a couple more years, hopefully.
This is a weird post. 5800x3d might be “legacy” but other am4 chips are still being manufactured.
Jokes on them I just ordered a used r 5 5600x for a $140 upgrade. My shits old as dirt. I was on a 1600x and a 1060 GPU.
Sorry guys, i’m the one who wished computers would become popular back when i was an awkward preteen in the 90’s. Oops.
AMD fucked up hard by discontinuing 5700/5800X3D
I fucked up by not buying a 5700X3D
Guess it was good I jumped on the 5700 X3D when I was able to.
Wonder what 3 series sells for… 3700X, etc.
And here I was thinking id just upgrade to one of these on my AM4 board… guess not.
I should sell my machine for more than I paid, I don’t mind dropping back to AM3+/DDR3 if it means I can spec a replacement later and make some extra money on top of it.
I have an old blade server that I got from work many years ago. I never set it up but just opened it up to see what’s in it and discovered it had DDR2 memory. Interested?
Makes sense, considering DDR4 has only gone up 2x.
Though now I need to but the motherboard sooner than later, lest there be no good stock by the time I get to it.built a dual athlon. think it was on a tyan mb. remember it needed ec, maybe ddr
