The United States will have control over TikTok’s algorithm in the acquisition of the social media platform’s US operations, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Saturday.

And exactly which branch of the government will get to make decisions about that?

Don’t go worrying about that citizen, just keep using the now US run data collection honeypot. This will be another state run media platform, and will only embolden Miller and company when they desire to take over Facebook and/or Twitter as well.

Edit - Ugh missed a word.

I think it’s even more ominous. From whta I’ve read the american version of tiktok will be entirely cut off from the international version. This means even people circumventing the algorithm will not have access to non-american opinions and will not be able to either cry for help or get outside (less biased) perspective. From a selfish non-american perspective I think it’s really good that the rest of the world will be isolated from the source of facism, but it sure does suck for americans and it also gives china what they wanted in the end. Trump did build a wall, a great firewall.

The greatest thing about getting the ttmc version of tiktok outside of the lack of ads is the very international algorithm. A solid half of the content I see (besides the 2 video “popular” injection that happens every 8-10 videos) is from outside the US.

That is a lot of copy to come away at the end with “so, what’s actually happening?” Seriously, this is concepts-of-a-plan-level shit as reported.
