Went to the gym at 7am only to find it closed, and 7.05 as I was leaving, he was driving into the parking lot.

Edit: Happened 3 days in a row.

Sounds like my hairstylist. I’m always her first client of the day, and I always end up sitting outside and waiting for her to get there. I get it, going to work sucks. She’s good and I like the location, so I don’t complain.

5 minutes is about 8% of an hour. If he’s just driving in at 5 past, it’s gonna be closer to 10 past before he’s actually training you.

He’s not giving you 15% of the hour you have paid for, and if he does it 7 times, he’s stolen a whole hour of training from you

I am assuming you are paying this trainer for an hourly session.

This guy isn’t going to last as a trainer. They have two hours (7-9) in the morning to see clients and three maybe four (4-7) in the afternoon.

He either cuts your session short or he makes his next client late too.

You said he was late three times in a row and will unpredictable when football season starts?

    Fire him.

Talk to them. Then if it keeps happening, talk to their manager.

Sometimes life happens, but if it’s consistent it’s annoying, and people have to be professional about it. If they signed up for the job and the job says the gym unlocks at 7, he better be inside at 6:30, get stuff ready and then unlock at 7.

That’s more than 5 minutes late if they were just driving in, probably takes at least another 10 minutes to park, unlock, turn on all the lights, get everything settled, etc.

I wouldn’t use them as a trainer, you’re paying them for the time and they’re not giving you the time.

He woke up late, won’t happen again etc etc. I’ve got 4 trainers with the gym because I do 6 days a week but only 1 guy is always late. It’s also distracting when we’re working out and he runs off to swich machines on in the middle of a rep. They always want me to commit 100+ hours each time I renew and paid upfront, so I guess being punctual is not too much to ask. In a way waking up at 6am everyday prepping for gym requires some discipline, I expect no less from the trainers.

He’ll improve for sure, until the English Premier League starts and Arsenal (his team) plays a late (+7) game on Sunday / Monday morning, then I’ll need to have a conversation with the gym manager again.

You have 4 trainers. Just rotate in a different trainer that can match your schedule.

The fact you prepay has removed all urgency from them. If your trainer is late don’t do the session, don’t pay for the session, just do a solo workout.

They have demonstrated a habit, if you accept it (pay for it) they won’t change.

More generally, one off events are no big deal, remember the human and all that. It’s the pattern that is the issue.

Why wait until it becomes a problem during football season? Ask for a different trainer sooner.

OP leaving out the its happened at least 3 times now sequentially is a big thing. Being late once 5 minutes? Let a person be late, yknow maybe? They are habitually late, thats not a rough morning but a constant lack of punctuality. Yeah, no. They should be ready by 7 sharp, they should be making sure they can be and if they cant making such arrangements with the gym (if they work for the gym)

This is not they are late 5 minutes this one time, this is, my trainer isn’t being responsible, im getting jipped, I have tried escalating it but its not working, what can I do?

IDGAF about five minutes in most circumstances. There’s just too much shit that matters way more.

If it was something that was a dealbreaker metrics because it fucked other things up for me, I’d want to know what the deal was, communicate that my needs weren’t being met, and decide to stay a member/customer based on that, but it’s not something that would bother me.

I refuse to be a fucking slave to the clock on my phone, and wouldn’t insist anyone else be either. Back before network clocks, we all did fine without and nobody died.

Assuming each time has cost you 15 minutes effectively, that makes a total of 45 min by now (1 hour after rounding).

Write a nice formal complaint letter to the company.

I pay by the hour, and I need to start sharp at 7 and finish at 8, then get ready for work by 9. If the gym is open at 7am, they should be in earlier and ready to go by 7am.
