I’m trying to get started on the Bradbury Challenge, where you read a poem, an essay, and a short story every day. Right now the biggest challenge is just finding engaging texts, especially when it comes to poetry. I find myself just going back to “the classics” like Shakesspeare, Robert Frost, C. S. Lewis and so on. I’d like to broaden my horizons.
Books of Blood, Vol 2 - Clive Barker
Twilight of the Idols - Nietzsche
Arundhati Roy has a couple of books of essays
The Cyberiad, by Stanislaw Lem. Haven’t read it since I was a kid, but remember it was awesome.
The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, personal favorite
Franz Kafka and Hermann Hesse had some lovely short stories. Mary Oliver and Charles Bukowski are some of my favorite English-language poets but I also enjoy translations of Japanese haikus.
Jorge Luis Borges.
I like the Phillip K Dick stories that I’ve read. I should grab a collection myself.
I enjoyed ‘the rattle bag’ as a poetry collection. There’s also ‘the poetry pharmacy’, which I thought was a nice concept.
Yes Fernando Pessoa from Portugal 🇵🇹
I like the poems of Eugen Roth, but I don’t knoe if there are any good English translations. For short stories I can recommend Umberto Eco. “How To Travel With A Salmon: and Other Essays” is my favorite.
