    it’s wild they do that while you’re awake in an exam room

    It’s a little hyperbolic to say, but the most dangerous part of a surgery really is the anesthesia. If you can do an operation without it it’s far, far better for the patient, even though it sucks to have to be conscious through it.

      There’s a lot of options between no pain relief and anesthesia though.

      Most procedures for women are done with no pain relief at all. Maybe they’ll suggest you take some ibuprofen beforehand.

        They only started believing that the cervix had nerves and is able to feel pain like 5 years ago.

        When my mom was a kid they didn’t believe that children felt pain or need Novocain for dental extractions.

        It was ten years ago that article came out about white doctors thinking black people feel “less” pain than everyone else.

        Babies still don’t get a local anesthetic to cut part of their penis off.

        Medical acknowledgment of the ability to feel pain is directly related to your proximity to being a white adult male.
