Looks like it’s a decade old problem and the solution isn’t super clean.
A long time ago I took some online classes, and the teacher could see if the software used for the classes was not in focus. I used a VM to run it, and as long as it was in focus on the VM the VM didn’t have to be in focus itself
The solution is to not use the service.
There are multiple extensions that can keep a tab focused even if you are not looking at it.
