To be fair, we haven’t ruled out the possibility that these assholes are all robots. That facebook guy has never once passed the turing test. I have never seen his face and thought “now THAT looks like a human!”
Maybe thats why they feel ok killing. I feel ok in linux going to the task manager and killing all the tasks that eat up my ram (hello firefox, and your 53 processes). But then the processes come back.
It also explains why we suddenly have a push for AI. They just want a brain, which they clearly lack.
