Apparently, the user whose PC order was canceled by Corsair without any “sensible” reason wasn’t an isolated case, as Corsair has confirmed that it also canceled DDR5 RAM orders placed on January 1. After the report on the Corsair PC order cancellation went viral, Corsair’s official X handle announced the reason for the cancellation. We’ll cover this in more detail, as a larger story unfolded today and Corsair informed users via X and Reddit.

That makes sense. I’ve had vendors cancel orders before due to pricing errors on their website. I’ve had it happen before with music gear and some sports equipment. The retailer didn’t realize that they had something listed for the incorrect value until I purchased it. They cancelled the order and let me know that the price was not correct.

I wasn’t happy about it, but I don’t think it was some conspiracy or that I should sue them.

Except this is DDR5 ram, so Corsair may be using this as a cover to hike the price since it’s been so volatile lately.

Yes the price is volatile, which is a great reason why a company may need to raise the prices. It would have been a kind and good hearted thing to honour the existing orders, I think that it’s a dick move to cancel and refund orders, but I don’t think that it’s illegal or that anyone was harmed in anyway.

You are not wrong in principle but I do think this is a very special situation, you seem to have to monitor RAM prices daily now and this was an increase of about 20% without prior notice according to the article linked here: https://lemdro.id/post/34227012

This isn’t the case you describe that they had a typo and instead of $1000 they charged $100 or something like that. They just noticed too late that the base price of one of their components jumped up, I feel that is on them, not the person ordering.

I mean, they are not making the RAM, or do they? Not familiar with their products and business but seeing the description of this it sounds to me like they already have prebought RAM from some time ago and they make it into this kit. RAM they likely got at a much lower price than what is current market standard. So this shortnotice hike is pure greed and should be illegal.

“We will sell you this thing for this price.”

      “Ok.”

      “We lied, lol.”

Companies have all the money and power and should not be able to back out of a sale because they fucked up the price.

It seems like open and shut false advertising. Why is it ok? Retailers should face the consequences of their actions.

It’s false advertising if they list one price and then charge another. It’s not if they list one and cancel orders so that they can change it.

It’s a mistake, they refunded the money. False advertising suggests that someone is selling something that is not what it appears. The person didn’t get ripped off, they have their money back and they are whole. Sure I would be annoyed about it if it happened to me, but it’s not a scam or a bait and switch. It’s just oops, we realized we can’t sell that for that price, here is your money back.

Come on, there’s no way you can believe that.

It wasn’t a mistake. The “mistake” was in not raising their prices as fast or as much as they possibly could, and so they just decided to not to honour it, and crank the price next time around - because they could.

This is pure greed, plain and simple.

          • According to the article, the price wasn’t the only incorrect thing, the kit itself was also out of stock. Corsair currently isn’t accepting pre-orders for this kit at all, so they’re not hiking the price for this product because they’re not selling it.

Again, the Venn diagram of people who use the term cuck and people who have read a book before have almost zero crossover.

Are you going to call me a libtard next?

I literally could not feel insulted by someone like that talking trash. You need to have style to style, and you obviously don’t have any.
