Is there going to be an option for push notifications on the future?
I don’t care about push notifications on most social media, but it’s nice to see when I get replies and DMs on here.
This would be a nice feature. I’d request, though, that to whomever is going to work on notifications please don’t bundle legitimate message alerts with “hey, use the app” notifications because it is the douchiest thing ever to do (looking at you Snapchat).
That sort of thing usually creeps in only when the app goes corporate. I think we’re good for many years to come.
Yup, and as a dev, I’d maintain a fork if that was added in.
For now, no. Mastodon does have the feature, afaik, so there is no reason lemmy/kbin wouldn’t be able to get it at some point.
You can already get desktop notifications if you allow that in your browser’s settings.
Planned but not implemented yet: https://github.com/dessalines/jerboa/issues/275
The lack of push notifications is a known issue that, as far as I understand, isn’t solved so easily because it needs Lemmy to have some server side capabilities that it doesn’t have (yet?).
See:
I do get them on desktop with Firefox.
