Wouldn’t this be more appropriate for PeerTube?
Also seconding doing this from your own instance. A lot of these Fediverse setups are donation supported. Don’t go wasting those funds for them.
If this ever happens, do it from your own instance or make sure the owner doesn’t mind. Don’t make the volounteers running instances afraid of knocking to their door.
How to add that feature in my instance?
I don’t know if this is the kind of feature that really fits Lemmy. I feel like it would be better suited as part of a video streaming platform or a stand alone piece of software. Owncast is a self hosted live streaming platform. Just keep in mind that you will essentially be running an IPTV service, which broadcasters really don’t like and if it gets big enough you might get a knock on your door.
I heard PeerTube was going to work on live streaming, I have no idea how far they got
It is already supported in Peertube and works fine.
A livestream is just a particular link or media. You would have to implement support in the clients we use. Probably not too hard for web-based clients, could be done in a day
Learn Rust and fork this, it’s easy https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy
No it won’t.
Try making a feature request for peertube to add live streaming.
Peertube already supports livestreams. And there is also Owncast, which is a bit easier to selfhost and also federates via ActivityPub.
Lol. I think FIFA demand a pile of money from people integrating the live streams into their platforms. We should start the fundraiser soon.
And I think I’m going to boycott the world cup 2026, so make this the women’s world cup in 2027.
Is this [email protected] or the other one?
