GN went offensive on a company critical to US national security interests and were contacted by the secret service. Makes sense.

I don’t put much value on the things gamers nexus covers. I feel like they tend to create drama where none really exists, and it’s all for ratings. Much better sources of information out there.

I’m guessing there is an bit of truth in what they found. I’m guessing nvidia isn’t shit stain free either. But I’d bet money that if Nvidia releases another high end card tomorrow, everyone gonna line right up to hand them their money, including gamers nexus.

And for the record, the Kraken Z7 I bought 6 years ago and mounted vertically is still running quite strong, despite gamers nexus all but telling me I was an asshole for mounting it that way because it was going to die within 2 years and I’ll have only myself to blame.

not sure what beef you have with GN, but they’ve seemed pretty rock-solid reliable to me for years now. Just good, detailed benchmarking and high-quality journalism. Unlike many tech channels and blogs, they actually cite their sources thoroughly.

Quick google is pulling up no parts called “Kraken Z7” so not exactly sure what you’re talking about. I think you’re referring to this AIO mounting video they did 5 years ago? Generally speaking, computer parts are subject to a binning process, which means not all parts are created equal. Just because your AIO has lasted 6 years with a suboptimal orientation doesn’t mean that every Kraken Z7 will last 6 years in that orientation. In that video, Steve uses a lot of qualifying language. In the chapter testing vertical orientation, he even specifically says “this one is more about noise than performance”. They also say that you could mount vertically with the tubes towards the bottom of the radiator, and that would solve most of the issues. They supplied tons of testing and evidence proving that their recommended orientations would work best. I’m not sure how you heard “this could shorten the life of your AIO” and took that as a personal attack, but sure. Take it out on GN i guess.

TL;DW: Gamers Nexus was contacted by the U.S. Secret Service because of their investigation into Nvidia’s slow corruption. In this vid, Steve and crew dive into how Nvidia has been getting into bed with Palantir, the Trump admin, and the global elite that are fueling the AI bubble. Nvidia went from almost no political contributions ever, to donating a massive amount to the Trump/Vance ticket. And GN brought RECEIPTS.

More importantly, it looks like Gamers Nexus (no apostrophe) is crowdfunding the deeper investigation that they want to do.

I’m inclined to think contributing to this journalism would be worthwhile.

While I don’t doubt there are considerable skeletons in all these parties closets, I do doubt the GN guy.

GN chases down every possible ounce of rage bait and controversy without fail. A lot of the time it fizzles out or doesn’t stand up to any kind of real scrutiny. My fear is that they are more interested in ad revenue generating clicks than honest unbiased journalism.

We do need a network of publicly funded journalism organizations, but being reliant on google’s tit and under the jurisdiction of US law is probably not the way to do it.

I don’t think he was chasing clicks before. The reporting GN has done has always been very informative and fairly accurate. Including his recent China thing.

That being said, I think since his big documentary he is looking for that same high and I do expect some degredation in quality because of that. Not saying I have seen it yet, but it’s a probable outcome and I’m watching for it.

GN’s last crowdfunded investigation into export-controlled GPU sales in China was a masterpiece of modern journalism. I have no doubt he wouldn’t fail to deliver here.

He blew the doors off of something we already knew was happening.

The sea of coreless and ram-less consumer GPUs is all over the second hand market in the US. We all knew those chips ended up in china. We all knew nvidia was seeking profits at any cost and chinese money is the white whale of many an MBA’s focus (before getting chased out by the party for not being chinese or owned by chinese anyway…)

It would be way more interesting to know if now after china said no more nvidia if the flow of chips is ongoing, but they probably won’t ever cover that.

You also won’t see too much critical of Google on their channel despite it being one of the biggest threats to privacy and safety, for obvious reasons. Can’t hurt the hand that feeds I guess.

“He blew the doors off of something we already knew was happening.”

Usually when an investigation blows the doors off of something, it’s because although many people were aware of what was happening inside, not enough did. Even if the primary gain is bringing awareness to an issue, investigative journalism like this is still important. After all, the doors were closed for a reason

Well this is a load of nonsense. You can see where they got funding for that investigation here. It was crowdfunded, after all.

As for the rest of your comment, “everyone knows something at a high level” is the dumbest reason not to do an investigative piece. It’s exactly that people only know it at a high level that investigating is important.

It would be way more interesting to know if now after china said no more nvidia if the flow of chips is ongoing, but they probably won’t ever cover that.

If you’re looking for another investigative piece as a follow-up to their previous one, then why don’t you email them directly? If you’re just complaining that there isn’t one, then can’t really help you there. The story of the GPU black market has already been told though, so the most they could probably really do is a hardware news segment if I had to guess.

Maybe you could mention a few examples of times they got it wrong, what specifically they said that “didn’t stand up to scrutiny”, and how if at all they responded upon learning about it?

The sentence is constructed ambiguously. A better version of that sentence is

Gamers Nexus was contacted by the U.S. Secret Service because of Gamers Nexus’ investigation into Nvidia’s slow corruption

The USCC contacted GN on behalf of the Trump administration, because they were upset at GN’s investigation.

When the antichrists leading the formerly-free-world attempt to crucify Gaming Jesus we’ll know the end times have truly arrived.
