I do not play the Sims, and am vaguely familiar with the concept of the game being controlling a families day to day life. What does the “extreme violence mod” do (that you can turn it off and somehow lose track of a character capable of it)
The mod adds well, extreme violence.
It lets sims murder other sims in various ways (also adds non-deadly violence)
You can make it so only specific sims you’ve enabled it for can do it, and you can make said sims do the violence out of free will.
The clown was probably placed in the neighbourhood in its own house, set to high free will, and high violence. Then the player went and played with their own family of sims.
Then if the clown ever came to visit (other sims in the neighbourhood will sometimes just show up to visit you) it’d start murdering. Events like a wedding usually invites everyone in the neighbourhood, so the clown showed up and started doing violence.
So was it actually triggering the violence and it happened to not be present or does it have a higher chance/ only trigger when the player is involved? Or would it just…stay home existing and not capable of triggering until it was called to the gathering?
Within a neighbourhood you usually open one house and all the others and their occupants are “paused” mid-activity. However Sims from the “paused” houses can randomly visit the one you have open without breaking the continuity of their own household.
E.g. you leave one house with the sim in the shower, go play a different house and hey presto the sim that was in the shower comes to visit. You then switch back to the other house and the sim is still in the shower.
So the murder clown would be paused in his house doing nothing yet still be making cameo visits around the neighbourhood.

Thanks for the explanation!
