    butter in freezer when stored. on counter under glass when used. not really in fridge at all.

    The butter really has a tray, yes. But in the fridge it sits in the dark even more, for all it sees is the ceramic lid on top.

    Why is your butter in the fridge? Do you like holes in your toast with 3 globs of cold unmelted butter on the surviving toast surface?

      I live in a desert and like having a puddle of oil on the counter even less. Winter months, sure. But 75% of the year it just isn’t an option. I’ve lost entire freshly opened sticks leaving them out for a couple hours after cooking.

        Yep, I did this once with some kerry gold and nearly cried. Our kitchen is on the south facing wall in the desert, there’s just no way to keep it cool enough in summer for butter to be kept out. Same with bread and bread adjacent foods. At least we have prewarmed dinner plates in summer.

    Our household uses that box for medications. Butter has to mingle with the hoi polloi. Keep strongly scented foods covered (and the butter wrapped) and there’s no problem.
