A bird large enough to need an opening that size while still tending to roost in trees…Great horned owl? Bald eagle? Turkey vulture? Turkey? Not many of them nest in holes in trees so probably wouldn’t know what to do with a box.
Yeah, I suppose even if the local bats had low risk of rabies or other disease depending on their species and food sources, the kind of bats that would nest in a structure like that would also infest buildings.
To state an obvious flaw, what were you expecting to attract with an opening that large? A bird would need 1/4 the size or less.
