So a while back, I wanted to play Conkere bad furday. After doing some math I worked out that it was cheaper to get an Xbox One and Rare Replay, than the original game.
But now that I have Conkers, and a new box. I thought to myself. Hey isn’t this backwards compatible with 360. Which it was. But this lead me to another thought. Why deal with Ubisoft BS on PCs and their Client. Where older games force you to sign in to play them. When I could just have them on one box.
Which eventually lead me to acquiring this small collection. Total price is $155.88 CAD (before tax) and I know I overpaid for some of the later games. But it’s all on one system with no Uplay BS in my face.
Ac1 - $3
AC2 - $4
ACB - $8
ACRe - $8
AC3 - $12
ACB - $7
ACRo - $15
ACU - $10 ($7 more than i think should costs)
ACS - $13
ACC - $18 (shocked with this one)
ACOr - $20 (could’ve got it for $10 but got it on impulse)
ACOd - $20
ACV - $30 (again $10 over used)
Are you planning to skip AC1, play 2 and then get a couple hours into 3 before giving up entirely?
I actually really like the first game. Had a unique aesthetic which is missing from the other games.
PC gamer discovers consoles. Is amazed.
Now, that’s fucking real savings right there (I know I know it’s only savings when you don’t spend your money blah blah.lol). So proud of you.
And you’re sure this is all of them?
Physically, the only game which is missing is Mirage. Shadows is “next gen” only. Freedom Cry is digital only. And while they are not shown I do own Bloodlines and Liberation on my Vita.
People shit on the franchise because they did kind of rush production, but honestly they hold up if it’s what you’re into. It’s just kind of sad they can’t all be AC2 quality, that was probably the best of the lot in terms of storytelling, intriguing exploration, etc. I still remember climbing into that girl’s place in the opening as Ezio.
JFC when did we end up with that many???
It’s been a while since I paid attention obviously; but I thought there were like 5 AC games, maybe 6-7.
13??? How many ways can you make poking someone with a hidden blade interesting…
It’s now just Ubisoft slop in it’s purest form, but it gets attention for the expensive and extensively researched historical open world
15 now. There’s also… the one that was really boring. It was in like 900. In a Middle Eastern desert. I think. I couldn’t finish it lol. There’s also Shadows, which I haven’t played. People called it racist or something. The last few haven’t required any semblance of stealth, they’re kinda just open world rpgs. Odyssey was the best one from what I hear.
I really enjoyed Origins and Odyssey. Neither should’ve been called AC games though. I think if they rebranded them under a new series, and removed the micro transactions, they would be seen as really good modern lite-RPGs. Especially Odyssey. They weren’t bloated like Valhalla, and I think had some really interesting elements. I haven’t played them in a few years but have fond memories. Maybe I should replay them to see if they’re actually good or there’s just a bit of nostalgia or rose tinted glasses or whatever.
I haven’t played Valhalla. But it’s REALLY hard to fuck up vikings. It’s pretty pathetic if they managed to. I played most of the Assassin’s Creed games last year. I enjoyed AC3 on much more than the first few (despite preferring Ezio to Connor by a little). Black Flag was excellent imo. Unity had potential, the microtransactions being required to get full completion pissed me off. I never finished it. Syndicate was much better, but it still had at least 1 purchase of the fictional currency required to have all the collectibles visible on the map. I missed exactly 1 fragment because of that. Never got it, and I tried. I liked the rpgs a decent amount at the time, but my standards were (and are) rather low. I’ll probably buy Shadows when it goes on a 75% off sale.
For me I’d probably say 1-3 were all really good. I’d probably agree that 3 was the best of those, but Ezio > Connor for sure. 4 was absolutely excellent, probably my favourite AC game. I enjoyed Unity, though I played it after the bugs got fixed and I never cared much about getting 100% so the micro transactions didn’t bother me too much. Same goes for Syndicate, I quite enjoyed that one too. I already mentioned my opinions on Origins and Odyssey, but yeah, both awesome games, just not great AC games. I wish it was a different franchise. Valhalla was way too bloated in my opinion, and was the first AC game I didn’t complete. I haven’t played anything after except for a couple minutes of Mirage, maybe at a friend’s house or a demo or something since I never bought it. I thought it was pretty fun, I might have to try it if I can find it for cheap sometime.
The only spinoff I’ve played is Chronicles: India I think, which I thought was pretty fun but I never finished it.
I haven’t tried any other AC games, so if I’m missing any it’s because I didn’t play it.
I think the issue was black dude in feudal Japan or something and not historically accurate?
Bot sure though.Apparently he was probably real. Just very poorly recorded, because, y’know, 16th century. I don’t really think it’s racist. Just something that would be difficult for them to do properly. I haven’t played, so idk if they did or not, but I hear that his character was boring.
The only one I ever played was on 3ds and did not like it at all.
Well, that would make sense since they’re traditionally tech showcases. They were huge when they were first coming out due to the parkour and melee combat alone. They’ve certainly aged over time, but I’d say anything after IV holds up well in terms of gameplay loop. The earlier ones can be rough around the edges if you don’t have nostalgia for them.
Black Flag aged well. The others… those fucking mission challenges.
I played 1 when it released and 2 a few years ago. I thought the storyline was great, really long, many characters, very pleasant playthrough. I own 3 but never played it, anyone has an opinion about it ? I’ve heard better things about brotherhood and revelations but honestly I felt 2 was enough time spent in Italy
3 is kinda meh, it doesn’t have a super compelling story or main character.
Brotherhood and Revelations are continuations of 2s storyline, if you didn’t know that already.
I’d recommend finding a copy of Assassin’s Creed 4. It’s probably the best of the entire series; in gameplay, setting, and story.
4 is the one on pirate ships ? I’ve always wondered if it didn’t lack intricate city parkour, which is what I dug most in the first two. I’ll try it, cheers
Oddly, 4 does have a few cities in addition to the nautical stuff. They aren’t big name cities, but Havana, Kingston and Nassau of that period. Kind of interesting, especially right when Pirates of the Caribbean was popular.
Why deal with Ubisoft BS on PCs and their Client. Where older games force you to sign in to play them. When I could just have them on one box.
Yeah, but the advantage of PC is games “last longer” graphically.
Old games like those on PC you can max out all the settings and even use mods to further enhance it.
On an old console, you’ll always be playing at the same graphics it was released with
PC games often stop working eventually, especially tentpole franchises. Original hardware means guaranteed compatibility. Plus some of us enjoy playing things in their original form 🤷♂️
Almost guaranteed, at least. Consoles are now in the habit of closing their stores after a new generation or two when they stop making enough money, and there are a lot of games today that aren’t really playable without a day 1 patch or additional content requirement that are simply not included on the disc.
A lot of games (not even just Nintendo) don’t even include the game data on the physical media anymore. The disc/cart acts only as a license and the entire thing is downloaded from the store when first used.
360 is a pretty notable exception in that the vast majority of the games will play fine so long as you have an up-to-date OS on the system, which you can do with a USB drive if it’s an old one and it can’t run a newer game. But yes you are correct that starting with the Xbox one/PS4 era, that has become a bigger issue
Luckily most of his assassin‘s Creed titles are 360 and they should play fine.
This is AC to me. Everything after was bad, especially the ones with the forced RPG mechanics.
Syndicate isn’t that bad… if you ignore Jacob. Odyssey is just beautiful, and the combat isn’t bad if you drop the difficulty down to a reasonable level.
Trying Origins now and I am liking it. Though I understand where you are coming from Odyssey and Origins would be better games if the RPG elements were gone.
Origins > Odyssey IMO. Better story, better pacing.
I played odyssey first too.
That’s pretty cool. Odyssey and Black Flag go crazy hard. I recently bought Fallout: New Vegas for the 360 and the first few God of War games for the ps3. Enjoying them quite a bit. You absolutely overpaid for Unity lol
Good news is that I didn’t buy it. It was a gift. So I don’t have that weight on my conscience.
Congrats on getting AC3 and Black Flag! The other cases can be used as bookends!
I’m surprised someone actually likes AC3, most takes I see for it are terrible.
AC2 is the one people usually prefer
Why are you surprised, 3 is amazing!
3 is shit on and seen as the punching bag because from an overarching story they dropped the ball hard with Desmond’s story line.
The actual game though is one of the better stories (after AC: 2) Ubisoft ever pulled off.
2, 3, IV and Origin/Odyssey are the only times I would say Ubisoft actually tried to do something unique outside of simply pumping yearly releases with marginal engine changes.
There is are 11 other games I’d rather play first before 3
Do you actually play all of them? I have been told Origins was the best so I bought it and then stopped playing it after 10 hours. I didn’t like the characters and the combat felt very repetitive.
Yet, no. I’ve played most of them. AC1 and 2 are so far my fav. Black Flag is in it’s own category. Skipped Brotherhood and Revelations. I tried AC3 but gave up on it. Didn’t play Rouge, Chronicles or Valhalla. Unity sucks. Syndicate is OK, Origins is good so far, Odyssey is fine, but a slog.
Brotherhood and Revelations are both continuations and upgrades from 2. I would not recommend playing all three back to back, but if you liked 2 they should be high on your list to play next.
Origins is the “best” of the new set, but there are older titles that beat them out if you’re okay with the older graphics. The AC2 trilogy is often considered one of the best, Black Flag is pretty unique and an absolutely fun time.
Origins was the first rpg. It was decent. Odyssey was in ancient Greece, I like it a lot better tbh
One of those is not like the others.
I saw it, I asked why. Then I saw it’s price and compared it to eBay. It was honestly a steal of a deal to get Chronicles.
I have been wanting to play Fable again, and not entirely sure I finished III. So I have been giving thought to picking up another 360, maybe I will finally get a 1.
If you plan on modding the 360 is a good option. But if you not I’d recommend the XBone. Moderns controllers work for it, plus they can be used for PC gaming.
The 360 hasn’t aged well in my opinion and most games you’d want to play will be backwards compatible on the XBone.
