Technology@lemmy.world•A Surveillance ‘Cat-and-Mouse’ Game With AI - The AtlanticEnglish
3·15 days agoThe No paywall link doesn’t work for me. I get a “404 Not Found,” and when I go to their main page I get a generic “Sorry! If you are the owner of this website, please contact your hosting provider.”
Anyone else having this issue? Removepaywalls.com was working fine for me up until about a week or two ago.

6·1 month agoOh god yes! I like to jog in my neighborhood at night and whenever one of these vehicles with super bright lights drives by I literally have to stop in my tracks because I can’t see a damn thing in front of me. It’s even worse when I’m driving!

12·1 month agoNot sure if you’re straw manning me, or what. Because your reply doesn’t have anything to do with what I said. And if you think my original comment has anything to do with religion, or it’s defense, you’d be very wrong.

And if you keep Byntleigh Destini Starr, or Jysis Saves Smith … You’ve probably earned it
The victims are the people being given these names. You are the blamer, because you think they’ve “earned it” because they haven’t changed it. My original comment had absolutely nothing to do with the article…

4·2 months agoFirefly is better imo, but it does have the “advantage” of only having had one very good season. Would Firefly have kept the same quality or better over 6 seasons? Who knows. We’ve all seen shows with excellent first seasons that later drop in quality (Altered Carbon for example). Regardless, The Expanse is a great sci-fi show that is at least worth trying out if you liked Firefly.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I am someone who works out daily and sweats a lot. Just doing laundry doesn't seem to adequately clean the underarms of my shirts. What are some ways to clean these areas of my clothing better?English

22·2 months agoI also, despite being in good shape, sweat a ton. I honestly hate it, but there are much worse things to live with.
Anyways, I had the same pit stain problem as you. I found that it was my antiperspirant causing the problem. I switched away from an antiperspirant (which honestly wasn’t really helping me sweat any less anyway) to a straight deodorant (Old Spice) and the problem went away.

Roko’s basilisk, is a thought experiment which states that there could be an artificial superintelligence in the future that, while otherwise benevolent, would punish anyone who knew of its potential existence but did not directly contribute to its advancement or development, in order to encourage that advancement.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which is worse: Friends or Seinfeld?English
181·2 months agoI enjoyed both when they were still airing, but I can completely understand why people watching them today for the first time wouldn’t. It’s one of those, “you had to be there” kinda things. Just like I probably wouldn’t enjoy watching The Beverly Hillbillies or I Love Lucy if I tried watching them today.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People born in the 1900s, what was life like back then?English
87·3 months agoOne of the things I miss the most about the 1900s is that people didn’t expect you to be reachable 24/7. Even though cellphones had been around since the 80s very few people had one. That meant that most people could only be reached through the family landline. If you didn’t answer people would just assume you were out of the house, thus unreachable. That all started to change in the 2000s when cellphones became common place. Now days I feel like everyone expects me to pick up when they call, and if I don’t they expect a better excuse than “I don’t feel like talking right now.” As a very introverted person who often needs a lot of alone time, it sucks, and sometimes I really wish I could go back to a world without cellphones.

I’m sure there were, but… ::: spoiler spoiler MONEY!!! :::
