The No paywall link doesn’t work for me. I get a “404 Not Found,” and when I go to their main page I get a generic “Sorry! If you are the owner of this website, please contact your hosting provider.”
Anyone else having this issue? Removepaywalls.com was working fine for me up until about a week or two ago.
I get the 404 error on this page and with most links to removepaywalls.com. Disabling uBlock doesn’t help.
Having no issues with the Bypass Paywalls Clean addon. It’s so good, it got removed from: the Mozilla add-on store, GitLab, and Github (which is why it’s now hosted on the Russian GitFlic).
I usually throw the URL in archive.is and that’s good enough for me. Yes, the owner is sketchy and petty, but apparently that spite does a good job powering the service.
Odd article. It’s halfway speculative: a better title is “what if always-on recording devices spy on everybody around them and not just the person wearing them?” A bit long, maybe.
The article makes this All About AI by focusing on
- AI recording devices specifically, like the joke product “Friend” (the Atlantic never mentions this one by name, I presume out of embarrassment) or an upcoming piece of Apple hardware that IIRC has been fraught with development issues from the beginning
- AI noise cancellation algorithms, which they note have been around since 2020 and barely register to the average person as AI unless you’re writing some long-form speculation piece
I dunno, I’m more worried about the microphone in my own computer, not somebody across the room rambling into a battery-powered pendant.
