Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some stereotypes you know of for weird groups you're a part of?
15·1 day agoPeople who play baroque music on historical instruments wear black turtlenecks at their concerts.
And wise-ass got outwiseassed. Chapeau
PS: you forgot to mention piezoelectricity
Well… if a wire moves in a magnetic field, a current is induced. If a current runs through a wire, it generates an electromagnetic field.
So in this case: spinning wire = spinning magnet
No, wind is spinning magnets. Everything except photovoltaics and fuel cells is spinning magnets. (Everything with boiling water is also spinning magnets)
Nonononono that one is called „Fat Man“ (Source: I played Fallout 3)

Science@beehaw.org•Antidepressants in pregnancy do not raise children’s risk of autism or ADHD, study finds
6·7 days ago“Together, this suggests that it is not the antidepressants themselves causing an increased risk in autism and ADHD but it is more likely to be due to other factors, including genetic predisposition to conditions such as ADHD, autism, and mental health conditions.”
That’s the point. ADHD is hereditary and depression is a comorbidity of ADHD.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What old thing surprisingly still exists?
6·18 days agoNot infinitely. I had a film scanned at 14k and it’s starting to look a bit grainy.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I'm curious: Are all the songs in your favorite music album masterpieces? or how do you determine an album is one of your favorites?
4·19 days agoThere‘s (or at least can be) a difference between an album full of bangers and a album you enjoy from beginning to end in one sitting. But I’m with you on this one. Thinking about it, the following albums come to mind:
Tower of Power - „Soul Vaccination“
Linkin Park - „Meteora“
Opeth - „Blackwater Park“
Queensrÿche - „Operation Mindcrime“
Queen - „A Night At The Opera“
Fleetwood Mac - „Rumours“
Tracy Chapman - „Crossroads“
Elende - „Todbringer“
Tenhi - „Kauan“
While I‘m writing this, it occurs to me, that it’s impossible for me to name a favourite album. I can’t even name a favourite album for each genre.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•China so smart, big penis too!
37·19 days agoWell… if you put solar panels over irrigation canals or reservoirs, water won’t evaporate as fast. It’s not completely stupid.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is it like to live with a black-skinned woman/girl?
2·29 days agoSadly (in „white“ countries) that’s not true at all. And not because there’s something wrong with them. There’s something wrong with the way they are treated and perceived.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your favourite song lyrics?
3·1 month ago„Filmriss“ by Knochenfabrik („blackout“ by Bonefactory) in a way one of the saddest songs I know.
Great cover with more emphasis on the sadness of the topic
Alles andre intressiert uns längst nicht mehrWe never planned to be born, and yet, somehow, it happened
When we finally recognized ourselves and thought everything was pretty shitty, at least we figured out what really mattered:
Because as long as we can still crawl, there’s room for one more we drink until our skulls are empty
Because we want to be forever as hollow as our empty bottles.
Everything else doesn’t matter anymore

The smartest thing I ever heard about evolution: „It’s rolling dice and keeping the sixes.“ There is neither a goal, nor a peak. Evolution is a load of completely random mutations. The ones that help a species to survive in their specific environment are „kept“.
Also oftentimes, stuff that was kept because it makes thing possible, turns out to be useful for completly different thing Fingers helping apes climb, but they also allowed the use of tools.
