An history of title confusion in the Metroid series.

1980s-1990s : no, no, the main character is not called Metroid, the lifesucking reptilian jellyfish are the metroids

2000s : OK, the lifesucking jellyfish are supposed to be extinct now, but she’s got some DNA of them, so technically, you know, she’s kind of a metroid…?

2020s : Metroid lady’s gonna eat your face.

I thought this trailer was really great! Looking forward to the game, especially after how good Dread was.

Looks like the air dash can go in four directions now, not just horizontal? And I think I saw missiles that went up at an angle and dropped. Anyway, what I’m getting at is that I hope the game has more along that line, of new or significantly modified abilities.

I loved Dread, this looks great, and I’m mad about it. I don’t wanna buy a Switch 2! 😠

Looks great! My one hope/ask is we get a little more openness and ability to explore compared to Dread, which felt somewhat on a rail at times. Otherwise I’m excited for this entry.

Dread guides the player along an intended path for a first playthrough, but if you’ve ever seen speedruns there are quite a few different skips, and many of them are clearly developer-intended. There’s even a special easter egg if you skip Kraid to get Bombs and Phase Shift, then come back and use those on the boss.

It’s much more breakable than II, Fusion, Other M, and Samus Returns.

Interesting. I haven’t watched any speedruns personally but I don’t doubt you on that.

I do think there is a subtle difference between “this game can be broken if you know the tricks” and “you can just walk around and explore the world if you want to”, which at least in my experience felt more true of past entries.

I still need to play Dread but glad one of my favorite series keeps getting the love it deserves.

This might be what finally convinces me to get a Switch 2. This actually looks really good, I’m curious what team is behind this.

I really appreciate that they are doing a Special Edition physical release for this. And the Chozo statue Amiibo looks cool as fuck.

Yeah, both amiibos look great. Not a big fan of the one in Special edition, but maybe watching a nice closeup will change my mind.

I haven’t watched the presentation yet, but is the $120 special edition the only physical release the game will get?

I guess this game makes it okay to openly talk about Dread’s ending, huh? I was wondering where they were going to go with it, but all of this just feels to me like Samus is slowly turning into a villain. She’s gonna need an exorcism or something!

Maybe the Galactic Federation should hire a bounty hunter to deal with this growing Metroid threat.
