    Gig-economies are always a scam. It’s a circumvention of every woker right past generations fought for but it’s somehow ok because it’s an app.

    Nothing says »AI job boom« quite like humans earning pennies to draw boxes around objects so a trillion dollar industry can call the result automation. The magic of AI apparently still requires an invisible army doing digital piecework: until the machine gets good enough to automate the people who trained it.

      That was kinda the plot in 007: First Light

      Spoiler

      The AI was sold to MI6 and had perfect accuracy. Turned out the guy who sold it sent a fix team every time it was wrong and MI6 made a “mistake” because of bad Intel, so the team could clean up the scene and make it look like the AI was right all along.

    There was an excellent article about some woman who worked AI-related gigs. It was absolutely devastating. I wish I could remember the article. In USA btw, not Australia.

    It was worse than “just” gig economy. Much worse.
