This makes no sense to me. There’s people in the comments literally telling me to go kill myself and that’s fine but, me politely disagreeing is worthy of a 30 day ban.

Or ask the Instance Admins for help
There unfortunately is no system in Lemmy (atm) to do this smoothly. When I was on
lemmy.world
, I used their system they had set up separately and that worked well, but for most instances, the only process to do something like that is to DM an admin directly, which will of course have greatly varied results, and that’s if the admin isn’t supportive of the abusive mod in the first place.
People of Lemmy,
I see more and more toxic behaviour here. I get that this war/conflict gets to us. And everyone has strong opinions and the debate is emotional. But it reminds me more of the toxic atmosphere that used to be part of Twitter.
I suppose the mods of political communities are having a bad day since the conflict escalated. And they are part of the debate, sometimes maybe making their decisions emotional, instead of neutral and based on reason alone. I -personally- think a 30-day is a lot, even if it is spreading misinformation. But I didn’t have a look at the facts here.
Judging by your comments in general, you seem quite an argumentative person. I usually don’t like people focusing on negativity and (for example) debunking a single argument out of a post and then concluding they’re right and someone else is entirely wrong. It leads to us having unproductive and stressful conversations, once we manoeuvre ourselves to opposing sides that lose the ability to communicate productively and grasp the bigger picture and the context that things are set in.
So. Please whoever is in the right or wrong, make Lemmy a nice place and not a clone of the toxicity and argumentativeness on Twitter. And don’t yell at people too much.
OP, please be aware you’re often a very argumentative person and a big part of your way of talking to people is opposing them.
please be aware you’re often a very argumentative person
I’m well aware of that. It’s the reason I’m on Lemmy on the first place. I love a good, long debate but I still try and be polite and listen to the counter-arguments and engage with what people are saying instead of attacking them as a person.
Judging by the comments here, I’d say it isn’t working. (That doesn’t mean it’s necessarily your fault at this point.)
All I want to say is: You and the people outright attacking you here are setting the tone of the conversation. I don’t feel entitled to lecture anyone on how to spend their time on the internet. For me, this thread is too toxic and not my vision of what Lemmy should be like.
Unfortunately, the really toxic people have arrived here, targeting you and spreading hate. I don’t think this going to become a productive conversation after that. And I really don’t have good advice here. I’m going to flag the comments that are hatred and then I’m out. I’m going to focus on some more productive things somewhere else. I wish you the best. Hope Lemmy strives to become a space for diverse opinions, constructive debate and not hatred and small-mindedness.

If you scroll through the community bans of World [email protected], you’ll see there’s a mod going crazy handing out months long bans for having the wrong opinion on the current conflict. Mods aren’t beholden to anyone but themselves, so if that’s how they want to mod then that’s how it’s going to be. Thankfully, Lemmy has hundreds of communities discussing the conflict so you might find better mods in one of those communities.
If it makes you feel better. I also reserve judgement until more information is out. The counter arguments as to why it wouldn’t be Israel does make sense to me. Lack of crater. Hospital walls intact. Hamas were firing rockets over the hospital. And the death figure is reported by Hamas. Most likely incredibly inflated.
Since when was recognized terror organisations reliable sources?
I’m really sorry for what happened to you. And I’m really disappointed because lemmy allows fascist instances and fascist friendly instances to stay, like lemmy.ml, the bears, the grads, and others. Why can’t they just leave like exploding-heads did? Why right fascism is bad and left fascism is good, when fascism is fascism after all?
socialists are fascists. war is peace. freedom is slavery. ignorance is strength.
Join an instance you believe in. If it happens to enough people they will move on.

It’s a bit more complicated than that. It may very well be the case for political communities, I don’t really know. But for computer-related stuff and my niche interests, the federation between those instances has (only) benefit to it. So I don’t really support that conclusion in general. But I’m in support of pushing down on toxic behaviour. And not everything on Lemmy is what I’d like it to be.
Lemmy isn’t a place for debates and arguments. If you don’t follow the direction of the topic, don’t bother inserting yourself into the conversation.
You need to be nice and supportive of whatever is posted, else you’re going to have a bad time.Read their code of conduct and you’ll find that it’s a moderator’s discretion to ban anyone they believe is disruptive, regardless of the rules.
So unless a moderator goes on a deranged banning binge, you’re automatically in the wrong.
If you can’t accept that, i suggest you make your own instance, with blackjack and hookers.I’m gonna steal the term deranged banning binge
I don’t see how making my own instance solves anything. I’m not posting from lemmy.ml account to begin with.
It helps if you want to go on your own banning spree for people not having the same opinion as you!
Yeah but then they’re banned and wrong
From their point of view, only you think there’s something to be solved.
A major point of federization is not having to deal with the undesirable rabble. To have your own little slice of the internet where everybody gets along. You don’t get along, so you don’t belong. Instead, you are very welcome to find or make an instance where you do belong and can engage in conversations freely.
Lemmy’s solution is to make the problem go away, which is why in its eyes, there is nothing to solve.
I think the idea that this is a negative but to me it is not. If a domain or magazine is run poorly then folks then I don’t want to go to it. I just want the individual ability to block at all levels working well and would love it both ways. I learned my lesson from mmo’s. A completely horrible cesspit of a chat can become pretty decent with just a dozen or so blocks. People who block everyone on a whim. Well thats great as I doubt their discourse is going to be beneficial. folks that don’t ban even though someones pushing the line will be rewareded with a richer experience.

I don’t mind a disagreement. Not at all. Infact I enjoy a good debate as long as both parties are doing it in good faith. This thread isn’t about that.

Keep trying, debate pervert. Maybe you can escalate this up to the fediverse Supreme Court.

You must have read the instance wrong of who you’re replying to. What’s with all of this I don’t believe anything being said anywhere crap… why even go on the internet and talk to anybody? You might as well be role playing in a chat some where.

With the major news going on right now there’s tons of people that don’t believe anything being said. Even if there’s photos and videos showing what they’re saying they don’t believe. It’s mind boggling.
Yeah I agree, but I don’t feel like that’s what I’m doing? My stance on the subject at hand is based on the evidence that’s available.
What evidence do you need of anything sitting at a keyboard and not doing anything about anything though? I just don’t understand any of the arguments going on between people that aren’t going to do anything about anything other than typing on a damn keyboard.
