I’ll still use it. The title is just a joke about being called out by a boykisser meme
Tooooo many arch using femboys, why not gentoo? Or is that just for cracked eggs? :3
Once I understood it, I found it funny. I just needed to spend ten minutes crawling the comments to learn about the meme this is a parody of.
I think I need some context, what is a boykisser meme?
Here, here!
Even with the explanation, I still don’t get it either. I have some questions:
- What is a boy kisser meme?
- What is good or bad about being called out in reference to one?
- Who was doing the calling out or being called? Was OP called out by Krita, Krita by OP, or some third party calling out one or the other? Or maybe a third party was called out by Krita?
- What does this image have to do with Krita or the other OSS projects in the background?
Feel free to assume that I am old and not hip to what kids are doing these days.
I honestly don’t understand people beefing with people they don’t know personally. Like, sure, I’m not the biggest fan of furries, but hey, you do you, I like animals but just not like that.
Not using software because people you don’t know like something you don’t like??? So stupid. Be you, be proud.
(I’m speaking generally, not directly to you op, btw)
No clue what your issue is, but if your standard for OSS is not being associated with furries, I’ve got bad news for you.
Nah I’m fine with furries. Except the boykisser one (as a joke)
Updated the post with the explanation. The joke didn’t land
So you’re OK with furries as long as they’re not doing gay shit? 🤨
This is a good Christian household! The bible said no to boy kissing. But it said nothing bad about dressing up as a fox and fucking your partner who’s dressed as a cow.
As long as they’re dressed like a girl cow.
Isn’t a boy cow just a bull?
Nah it’s not furries. It is just the boykisser meme that is often made to call out a person that may or may not be in the closet and mock them. It mostly conveys itself as rage bait / just being annoying.
So if the krita mascot starts saying stuff like that, that’s a valid reason to not continue using the software.
I do like the boykisser meme, but I’m just playing into the joke
I wasn’t sure if it was a joke and I read another comment here that seemed to indicate that it was not. Thanks for clearing that up, unfortunately sarcasm is easily lost across the internet.
Furries keep the internet running.
Krita is open source why the hell would you uninstall it?
Updated the post with the explanation. The joke didn’t land
No, it landed for me. Maybe it was less obvious than I thought.
I mean, it cured my addiction to pirated Cracked software (and countless hour of cleranup from virus and malware), so, yeah.
And when you have to crack a newer version (because the old can’t work on your $os) it’s all bloated up.
The only thing I don’t like about Krita is the color picker but I’m sure you can change that so I’m just lazy.
Being out-of-the-loop, what did Krita do?
_ /\ _
I imagine it’s related to how some neckbards on the internet are apparently extremely salty that Krita currently has a “furry” as a mascot, created by Tyson Tan.
Why the fuck wouldn’t Krita have a furry mascot? That’s their entire userbase there.
I have no idea. There was some dweeb on this very instance going around spamming a Krita related thread complaining about it.
“My God, what are all these furries doing using an open source art program?”
Like, dude dove in the yiff pile headfirst and then had the audacity to act surprised.
Thank you people for telling me.
_ /\ _
…then don’t wear a t-shirt with the mascot…
I googled but I can’t find any kontroversy
Then use apt or yum or pacman!

Nothing, OP’s just saying things
The title is just a joke about having “boykisser krita” calling me out and and being angry at that smug face.
I ain’t uninstalling it anytime soon.
Is it about Krita being on steam not for free?
If I’d use krita on regular basis I’d be happy to support the devs. Also, the license is the same as always - it’s open source.
Why is on steam? To use it on a steam deck?
so you can pay to support them, just like how goblin tools is on the app store
From what I understand, most of Krita’s development budget comes from income on Steam, with fund.krita.org being a smaller slice. Krita would effectively be in maintenance mode if they didn’t have money to pay regular developers and maintainers.
You can still just get it for free on the website.
Blender has been on steam for years. As have other multimedia and game tools. For platforms like windows, it is one of the best auto update systems widely available.
Steam seems a bit of an odd place for it, but I don’t really see a problem with it.
Nah. Updated the post with the explanation. The joke didn’t land
Wait, so you have to first run Steam to edit a pic? Rather give them a donation i think.
Im recompiling Krita 6 just for you 💘
sigh guess i’ll have to put the mandatory “free as in freedom, not free as in free beer” over here
And still available free as in beer as well.
This is a giant bucket of nothing.
???
Ewww majaro
I always read it as “major no” just to remind me.
Hello, 6 month Manjaro user
Why does everyone hate Manjaro so much? It works just fine (for me at least)
Are there better organization backed easy to use arch derivatives? It’s been a few years so it may not be the same nowadays, but when I used Manjaro for a bit it was always just a matter of time before an update broke everything. Probably had something to do with chaotic-aur. It was great otherwise, though. I wouldn’t let it get to you.
Now I use a Fedora Atomic distro, which is like… the opposite of risky upgrades.
https://github.com/arindas/manjarno
And that’s not even up to date anymore. They let their SSL cert expire sometime in the last month. Again.
The real problem with it is that it’s an attempt to maintain a "stable"ish downstream set of repos to give an arch-like experience, which is something that requires constant effort and diligence. Things the current devs do not provide.
If they can’t even get automated certificate renewal set up (something that is extremely trivial to do), after years of that being a meme, what else are they not taking seriously?
And at that point, what is the appeal of Manjaro? Why not just use Arch?
Depends on your use case. Manjaro is in the unique position of having such a poor management track record, that almost any other Arch derivative (or, you know… Arch) is preferable. They’ve let their SSL certificate expire for the 7th time just last week I think? I honestly haven’t kept count, but it happened at least a few times. If it works for you, that’s fine. I imagine most reasonable people don’t really care. I personally dislike Manjaro for their poor track record managing their repositories or SSL certificates, their historically stupid approach to the AUR and the generally negative effect it had on Arch linux (tech support). Honestly I think Manjaro benefits most from its popularity in the tech influencer spheres and the fact that most of its userbase doesn’t seem to question if a rolling release model actually makes sense for their use case.
They’ve had a few embarrassing slip-ups that are largely irrelevant to users of the distro. I used it for years and my partner still uses it. It’s a perfectly fine distro.
why uninstall it? (do not answer if you are not OP)
You can’t tell me what to do!
Updated the post with the explanation. The joke didn’t land
It knows who you are
