      Mercator’s deformation show up when you move countries north/south. Since Portugal only moved slightly East the apparent size basically didn’t change. (You can even see and compare real Portugal just left of the red projection)

        I feel like this post is taking a picture of a cube, calling it a cube, then I’m supposed to doubt that it’s a cube. Which I wouldn’t…

      Well not exactly because it’s still a misleading projection, because Spain is also incorrectly projected given how far north it is
