Reached chapter 4 in Ys IX: Monstrum Nox.

Reached 4 members, but can only have 3 in party at a time. And the ones that aren’t in active party only get half of the experience. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. It means I am never going to switch to other party members.

Either don’t have a system where some people are sitting out on a bench, or at least have a way for them to stay properly leveled.

No complaints other than that.

Dropped Garage (Garage: Bad Trip on other platforms) on Switch.

The game was fun for the first half, but after multiple difficulty spikes, eventually it becomes more of a puzzle game learning about enemy placement then anything else. Which is somewhat a part of this genre, but it stopped being fun for me. So, dropped the game.

My recommendation: The game is still worth a try if you like these kind of games, but if you haven’t played any game in this “top-down Hotline Miami like” genre (or whatever it is actually called) don’t start with this.

Started Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze as my new secondary game. Got it on the recent sale.

I have played the first 3 Donkey Kong Country games, 2 of them last year, but the control / movement in this feels a bit heavier. DK doesn’t seem to jump as high, and holding the secondary button doesn’t seem to increase the speed (other than initial boost). It just feels different.

As for difficulty I have only reached the second world, but have already died a few times. Fortunately have tons of lives and they keep increasing so that isn’t a big issue for now, but this is a first DKC game I am playing without save states, so let’s see.

Also there are couple of levels in the first world that I can’t get to, I am assuming I would need to replay the previous level and find different exit for that, but haven’t tried that yet.

Having fun though.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

Xenoblade X is being a bit weird right now. It looks like they didn’t really update the endgame content from the original game. They raised the level cap to 99, but equipment still caps at 60 for requirements. You can find a level 60 weapon that is the best you’ve ever seen of its kind and an hour later you find another, also level 60, that is literally twice as strong. I haven’t touched the story in a long time either, because all the original game’s content is basically available now and there’s a lot to catch up on. I think I’ll stop when the quests reach level 60, though that means I’ll have to deal with the lobster dolls soon. I’m honestly shocked that I only found around half of them on my own! I tend to take all kinds of detours trying to get to quest markers in the city so see if I can find any more but I haven’t found any in months…

Got started on Vampire Survivors last weekend. Still in what I would call the beginning, but I’ve unlocked a few fighters and weapons and starting to see some progress.

    Playing Hades 2!

Huge progress this week. Managed to beat Chronos a few times, but I’m still having trouble with the final boss on the other path.

Playing Witch on the Holy Night!

Still on Chapter 7. It’s partially due to Hades 2 eating most of my gaming time, but also because this Chapter is fairly long.

        Chronos is the final boss?

I mean, the trailers all say “Death to Chronos” so I figured that was not a spoiler. But yes, he’s the final boss of the initial path (Underworld).

        There are multiple paths? 😲

Yes! After a while you also unlock the option to go to the Surface path, which is much harder and has completely different areas and bosses. Adds a lot more variety to the game.

You also have to keep alternating between the two paths to unlock things as most are done as “spells” in the witch’s cauldron, and each requires ingredients from specific areas.

One neat thing are some tweaks they added to make you less susceptible to RNG when trying to get a specific ingredients - you can recruit “familiar” animals and can bring one with you each run. Each has different benefits, one of them being “higher change of finding ingredients of a specific type”. So you need seeds? Bring the Hecuba the dog familiar and he’ll find and dig them for you.

Still liking Witch on the Holy Night?

Quite a bit. I’m taking my time with it but I expect my final rating will be at least an 8 out of 10, maybe higher depending on how the second half goes.

Disney Illusion Island on Switch 2. The game play is fun, but a little repetitive. The story and dialog are funny.
