Let’s get some chaos.

People like to rag on AI here because it grants them coolness points and because they’re threatened that it will literally do a better job, faster and cheaper than they can. If the so called “tech gurus” around here would think more about the greater good (as in helping to train AI instead of always criticizing it) we’d have a much better society.

An LLM generated this post and will farm all responses to refine its ragebait. Lemmy users are contributing to their own deliquency.

Linux is too complicated, breaks all the time, and you need to be a nerdy computer wizard to be able to use it.

I have very niche needs like reading emails, writing emails, and looking at memes, and for my use case Linux is really not there yet.

Not so much as ragebait but unpopular opinion. I think most Lemmy users are highly paid middle class, tech workers who are out of touch with the genuine grievances and feelings of the working class, whose previous manufacturing jobs were outsourced and left with no alternative. They are then left to compete with just as poor immigrants for artificially-induced resource scarcity. And then Lemmings call them ignorant redneck hillbillies without listening to their lived experience. Sure, many former manufacturing blue collar workers could re-skill, but it is easier said than done, since most people find it hard to re-adjust and prefer to stick with their trade.

Now that there is huge lay off of tech workers the past year in preference to cheap immigrant labour, and cost-free AI, many Lemmy users are starting to realise and feel the experience of working class who had been left by globalisation.

I am increasingly becoming socialist. At some point we will all need UBI.

They complain about it all the time, but gamers deserve the microtransaction and slop hell the AAA industry has created, as those same gamers pump billions into these soulless corporate behemoths and keep the system rolling.

    1. Why do you care about your data being stolen? It is just data, do you have something to hide?
    2. Charlie Kirk was a normal right-winger. He had a family. He only stood for peaceful values, and never anything that could be considered harmful.
    3. I think the EU should stop regulating US companies.
    4. Zelensky is standing in between Ukraine and its peace. Without him there would have been peace long ago.

The whole “women’s clothing has no pockets” situation happened because women buy clothing with no pockets, then complain about the lack of pockets.

If you made men’s clothing with no pockets, you’d have a bunch of clothes nobody wants.

FACT: the best Christmas song ever is “All I Want For Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey. Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

    Needs text alternative.

Images of text break much that text alternatives do not. Losses due to image of text lacking alternative:

    • usability
      • we can’t quote the text without pointless bullshit like retyping it or OCR
      • text search is unavailable
      • the system can’t
        • reflow text to varied screen sizes
        • vary presentation (size, contrast)
        • vary modality (audio, braille)
    • accessibility
      • lacks semantic structure (tags for titles, heading levels, sections, paragraphs, lists, emphasis, code, links, accessibility features, etc)
      • some users can’t read this due to lack of alt text
      • users can’t adapt the text for dyslexia or vision impairments
      • systems can’t read the text to them or send it to braille devices
    • searchability: the “text” isn’t indexable by search engine in a meaningful way
    • fault tolerance: no text fallback if
      • image breaks
      • image host is geoblocked due to insane regulations.

Contrary to age & humble appearance, text is an advanced technology that provides all these capabilities absent from images.
