The facist playbook. The enemy is both weak and very strong and dangerous. The only one that can protect us from “the others” is the facist dictator.

I think his cult views it like God and Satan. So no matter how omnipotent, God wasn’t able to prevent Satan from accessing Eden as a snake and tempt Adam and Eve.

IMHO those people already have been heavily brainwashed by their religion so they’re willing to believe whatever fits the main narrative.

Another lemming pointed out a hypothesis that explains all this:

To some, good and evil are something you inherently are, not just something you do.

Barring some very, very specific circumstances (e.g. baptism), the die is cast. From that vantage point, it’s easy to have shorthand for good/bad guys, regardless of what deeds they commit. This is where corrupt leadership and propaganda slot-in by inventing new and exciting ways to judge people.

That’s just so stupid. Nothing against you and this take, it’s likely not far from the truth. But the whole concept you describe is just… dumb…

I love how Satan thought that Eve would’ve found a talking snake more trustworthy than his true form: an angel.

(Yes, I know that Satan being the snake was retconned. It’s just another funny thing about Christian mythology that nobody thinks to point out.)

Image search for “biblically accurate angel”. It’s nightmare fuel, like the hallucinations of early image generation neural networks. Or, more historically, migraine or seizure visualizations. The snake probably would be less frightening.

They were probably originally based on optical illusions caused by unusual reflections/refractions in the atmosphere. They would have been like mirages that you can’t approach to realize it’s not really an object. Kinda like a rainbow. Biblically accurate angels come from people trying to make sense of seeing light doing weird shit.

Though I bet there was also improvisation of those for some of them. Like “oh if this is possible for angels, they must also be able to do x!”

That whole snake thing always reminds me of that iconic scene from Religulous.

It worries me that there are people running my country, who believe in a talking snake
