I don’t think I realized how emotionally connected I was to this little guy. As I look around, there are so many things that remind me of him. I miss him very much. But I’m grateful that we got to throw him an 18th birthday, and we even took him cabin camping with us, which he reluctantly enjoyed lol.

PSA to please give your cat kisses and treasure your time with them.

I didn’t realize how much I would miss my cat and how big of a hole he’d leave in my life until he was gone. You just get so used to them always being there. You don’t realize all of the little ways you interact every day.

I never wanted that cat, too. He was old and had health issues. But he was a friend’s cat who couldn’t keep him. My now wife pestered me for days to adopt him, but I resisted. Then a month later when he still hadn’t been adopted, she pressured even harder and I finally gave in.

Over the years he bonded with me more and became my cat. And now it’s been a year since he passed and I still get choked up sometimes, like right now.

Senior kitties are so special to me. I lost my girl a year ago in August. She was with me for 18 years, from the day she was born to the day she died. It still hurts… but it’s better than it was.

He looks like a true beaut, sorry for your loss <3 I hope you can take some comfort in knowing you gave him a love filled life which was as good as a life can be for a cat.

That’s how I was when my childhood dog passed. So many things I’d do that reminded me of her. At one point, as absurd as it was, I couldn’t play something as basic as Minecraft without having to shut it down because it reminded me of her. Just recently we lost a kitten that wasn’t going to make it, and the space heater we had keeping him warm made me cry whenever I saw it.

Your cat is very lucky to have been loved like that. I’m sure he knew that

He’s lived in a lot of houses over the years including a college house. So we invited all his friends from college for his 18th birthday. He always seemed oddly comfortable being surrounded by lots of people and a little chaos. So I think he appreciated getting to see a big group of his friends after having graduated college.

As for camping, we booked a little cabin in the woods. The cabin had electricity and an ac, but no running water, if that gives you an idea. So it was a camping, but comfortable enough for him to like it, aka glamping. Initially he seemed confused being in a new place, but after a couple hours, he was very excited by all the nature around him. In his old age, his top speed was very slow, so we could let him explore a little without him running off.

He was beautiful. And 18 years is an incredible time to spend with such a magnificent friend. I’m sure that the pain and hurt seems unbearable but it’s the price we have to pay for those years and years of love and loyalty. It’s worth it in the end. May the beautiful memories persist forever.
