If you ever bothered to use them you would find that they do not charge you for the privilege. They do offer some services that you must pay to use but you are not forced to use them and can do without them all if you are conscientious enough to cover your own ass for mistakes

Except why do private companies handle taxes at all? That’s not their business and the government should be able to handle it all themselves. Take your smugness and shove it.

      “not forced to use them”

This ignores obnoxious hurdles in place to make the free tier as shitty as possible so people buy.

“cover your own ass for mistakes” Well can you personally guarantee that these asshats won’t create traps and gotcha’s along the way?

Since I don’t own the company, no I cannot guarantee anything. Guess I shoukda stuck a big fat #YMMV on the post. If none of you are comfortable using them, thats fine. DON’T USE THEM. If they have income limits for the free file thats their prerogative. Anyone that has to do your math for you deserves compensation

Depends on specifics. I haven’t been able to use the free tier for years. These companies collect all kinds of data from its users too.
