“An hour long video on a fridge, huh?” YUUUP! :-D
The video where he installs a transparent panel on a dishwasher is enthralling, and I never thought I’d be so interested in his continual pursuit of the perfect Christmas lights.
All presented with blink-and-you’ll-miss-it dry humor and 90’s PBS editing.
If you haven’t done so already, do yourself a favor and subscribe.
Came here to suggest the same. This is the channel where they can make several long videos about dishwashers, while keeping it interesting and it makes you question all lifechoices afterwards: https://youtu.be/_rBO8neWw04
I can also highly recommend this video about a toaster: https://youtu.be/1OfxlSG6q5Y

Tom Scott does great stuff, and I found him through Computerphile years ago.
If you like board games, check out No Rolls Barred.
Veritasium and Smarter Every Day are good educational channels about science. Nile Red too.
I can give more if any of these are hitting for you.
Am I right in thinking Tom Scott is quitting / taking a break soon? I’m sure I saw something along those lines.
Yeah, end of the year. Link to a lemmy world post
Definite +1 for No Rolls Barred. I recently discovered them through their Communist Monopoly House Rules episode. It’s been a long time since I’ve laughed that much at a video.
That video was amazing and I’m glad they’re getting tons of views and recognition for it. They introduced me to my favorite game, Blood on the Clocktower. I’ll throw that playlist on and fall asleep to it all the time.
Does anybody else find Tom Scott annoying?
I love channels that deep-dive into the details of things, etc. But I’ve always found Tom to be so smug and patronising.
Is it just me?
I don’t at all. He’s like a little kid when he gets to watch the maglev train in Japan
He’s just very British, I think. IIRC, he also plays a bit of a character inspired by BBC reporters of his youth on camera.
If you listen to him in a context other than his main channel (I love his Lateral podcast) he doesn’t come off as smug at all really.
He’s definitely a bit of a dork but it’s not annoying
I couldn’t stand his Tesla/SpaceX obsession but for the past few months he seems to have let go of it

I don’t know these were posted or not but here is my suggestions which every youtube watching person probably already heard about most of them:
Not Just Bikes: Channel about Urban Planing-Living and how destructive the cars are.
History Matters: Short animated videos about historical events, narrated with humor.
my mechanics: Best and most detailed restorations ever.
NileRed - NileBlue: All about experimenting with chemical reactions.
Oversimplified: Like the name, oversimplified narrations of historical events but in a long form with animated depictions and humor of course.
Stefan Milo: Really informative research videos of archeology.
The Linux Experiment: Like the name suggests it’s all about Linux.
Bad Lip Reading: It’s in the name.
ChrisFix: Best car repair channel out there.
DIY Perks: DIY videos but heavy on the entertainment side rather than the doable diys.
Ethan Chlebowski: Trying to understand cooking from the perspective of homecooks.
Alex (the French Guy Cooking): Reverse engineering the recipes.
Brick Experiment Channel: Building Lego machines.
These all are high quality channels imo. There are a lot more but I am kinda lazy for now.
This is a csv file of really high quality channels that you can directly use in Piped: Proton Drive Link to csv file
Even though I kinda like “Not Just Bikes” it feels a bit too much of a pro Netherlands propaganda channel for me.
In comparison a “Honest guide” just feels more honest.
Also I have to add “Brick Technology” since it’s the “Brick Experiment Channel” but more.
Yeah I’ve been subscribed to both of them too but like I said I felt lazy to write all of them. Also Honest Guide’s content range is broader and video styles are different. But Brick Technology is also good.
NJB is really pro Netherlands but I am kinda okay with that because I really didn’t consume any media before that are pro Netherlands so it has a place to join with the pro America, UK and France media I guess.
My Mechanics is really great!
+1 for NJB.
Hang on why are you spying on me? This is essentially all I watch!
Really? We essentially have a same taste then. I am curious do you have any other suggestions for me?
Tom Scott
Defunctland is great for high quality documentaries on amusement parks and 2000s television
If you’re into bread tube / left tube, I highly recommend Innuendo Studios. In particular, Innuendo Studios’s playlist, “the Alt-Right Playbook.” It helps make sense of internet discourse.
They’ve also got fantastic gaming related content, namely This is Phil Fish, The Artist is Absent: Davey Wreden and The Beginner’s Guide, and Who Shot Guybrush Threepwood.
Their series on Gamer Gate, Why Are You So Angry?, is also worth a watch!

Sampson Boat Co. - British man and friends rebuild wooden sailing boat. If you have any interest in boats or craftsmanship you’ll enjoy. Watch from the very beginning to see their incredible progress.
Beau Miles - Charming and slightly rough Australian man has strange adventures and philosophizes along the way. He gets excited about particularly useful/edible bits of trash along the highway.
Primitive Technology - Silent man with blue shorts exists alone in the jungle and has been working his way up to iron tools. He is freakishly fast at making fire with only two sticks. Watch in order to see his progression and turn on captions to see his commentary.
Spirit Of The Law - Extremely thorough Age of Empires II science and analysis. If you thought this 24 year old video game was dead, think again.
Settled - Old School RuneScape player plays the game with extra restrictions that create surprisingly compelling storytelling. “Swampletics”, his Morytania-locked Ultimate Iron Man is legendary.
DIY Perks - British guy makes mostly brass/wooden PCs and other tech. His creations aren’t always the most practical but they are always interesting. His slim PlayStation 5 was neat.
There’s a handful of sustainable farming channels that I like: No-Till Growers, Richard Perkins, and Josh Sattin Farming. If your interests include food or growing stuff then these are for you.
Primitive Technology
I’m looking forward to seeing him build a video editing computer from elements he’s crafted himself.
Upvoted for Settled
I’m mostly into educational channels:
- CGP Grey (infrequent posting schedule, but really good when he does)
- Minute Earth (Quick Earth science videos)
- Minute Food (Quick food science videos)
- Technology Connections (explains new and old technologies)
- Kurzgesagt (general science with cartoon birds)
- Mark Rober (over the top engineering)
- The 8-bit Guy (retro computing and pc gaming)
Then there’s “You Suck at Cooking” for silly, but good recipe videos.
“Film Joy” for deep dives into films
“Lock Picking Lawyer” to watch a guy pick any lock in a few minutes (addictive)
- Adam Something
- blameitonjorge
- Computerphile
- crowbcat
- Digital Foundry
- dime store adventures
- ElectroBOOM
- GamersNexus
- LEMMiNO
- neo
- Nexpo
- PBS channels
- RealLifeLore & related channels
- Sam O’Nella Academy
- Tom Scott
You could add Summoning Salt to this list. I’m not really otherwise interested in world record attempts, but something about his narration is so good.
Another fun addition could be Oversimplified.
If you like Summoning Salt, I highly recommend OneShortEye.

There’s more that I could # recommend, but I couldn’t figure out how to describe them.
Max0rs Ace Combat videos are gold!
Big IndieMaus fan. Good rec. August is Metroidvania month, time to get hyped!
Gamers Nexus and The Linux Experiment kinda rubbed me the wrong way in a way that I’m not sure how to describe, so i personally couldn’t get into those when I tried BUT I can vouch that they are both popular and Gamers Nexus in particular is well endeared by the PC/Gaming community
That’s understandable. When I first saw The Linux Experiment, he felt almost like a 3D render rather than a real human being. Gamers Nexus can get pretty passive aggressive.
How you gonna have education section and forget Tom Scott, Veritasium, and especially Vsauce
or gaming and forget the OG angry video game nerd
Never really watched him much since I was more into minecraft content when I was younger, but I’ll take another look at the channel.
I like Vsauce, but YouTube just never recommends his videos to me. Same with all the others except for Veritasium. I just haven’t seen enough of their content and schedule.

+1 for primitive technology. Interesting guy that goes out to some empty land in I think Australia and builds houses and all kinds of stuff with just his hands and tools he makes himself. He is going for forging his own iron knife now, which is insanely impressive.
