I’m trying to mount an action cam to my FAST airsoft helmet, and I’ve got the j-hook baseplate already installed, but with just the baseplate the camera’s FOV is still way too high.
I cannot bring the camera lower than this using just the baseplate, so I thought I’d just buy an extension that will let me swivel the camera further down, but I tried searching for it and couldn’t find anything.
This is how I’ve got the camera set up now, and this is how I want it to be. I need the green part, which is just a male-to-female extension part, but I don’t exactly know how to search for it, as anything I try comes up blank. I know this part exists, because I’ve seen it a few times before, and of course right as I try to search for it, it conveniently disappears as if it had never existed. Can anyone help me out?

I’m assuming you can’t invert the mount on the helmet. Reverseing the cam so it’s higher but pointing down, may work without any new parts.
If you can invert the mount, that may be the best.
Or to answer your direct question. Maybe “GoPro mount extension.”
Unfortunately no. The swivel range gets severely reduced when I invert the mount, stopping with the camera pointing basically upwards at the mount’s farthest point.

I think you may have misunderstood what I meant by inverting the mount. You need to invert the camera with it.
Then you can easily point it down 10-20°, away from the sky.
The camera should automatically rotate the video 180° for you. Even if it doesn’t, that’s super easy to do in any editing software.Oh, right. Yeah, I could do that. Thanks!
I almost wonder if this is how it’s intended to be as I can’t imagine why someone would design a mount that only allows the camera to point at the sky.
If you mount the camera below the rim of your helmet then you’re going to have a really bad time.
Mount a wedge to the helmet and the camera base plate to the wedge. I’d use wood for simplicity of fabrication. Throw some paint on it.
If you don’t have access to a wood shop then literally take your helmet into a big box hardware store and look around for something that’ll work as is, or to a small hardware store paying a little more for assistance in figuring out a solution.
That’s a pretty good idea actually. I’ll first try an actual extension to see if it will truly be as bad as you describe, and if it will be, I’ll just make a wedge. Thanks!
This might be something to ask Amazon’s Rufus AI about. I’ve actually had success describing things like this and it finding what I’m looking for on Amazon.
You may also check Thingiverse or another 3D printing website for parts for “airsoft helmet GoPro” and if you can find it, like this one https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2799476 you can either search for similar terms on a site like Amazon or have this 3D printed by a friend or a shop or it might be your entry into 3D printing with your own printer to print this and other parts.
mount the camera upside down. Then the camera will tilt down instead of up. A simple vertical flip in any video editing app will fix the orientation, if the camera can’t recognize the altered orientation.
