Cool, i never really understood/knew the reasons for the Nextcloud fork. When you say ‘we’, does it mean you are affiliated with opencloud? What would my reasons be to use opencloud over owncloud?

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Employment contract that allows for open source projects, advice needed
1·6 months agoI have ordered a used x280 (only 8 gb ram), it was not at all that cheap though… i could probably have scored one way cheaper if i had a little more patience.

1·6 months agoI would like to do it outside company time, but on their machine if possible, but if not, i’ll just get another machine. But as others have stated there are some small print that says something like - knowledge gained through company activities will be their IP, it’s somewhat vague and can be interpreted in different ways

7·6 months agoI would like to use the company machine if possible, but outside of work hours. My current contract is formulated in vague terms with references to the applicable laws (Denmark), so i’m sure it’s legal.

Technology@lemmy.world•China connects its largest battery-supercapacitor hybrid storage plant - Energy StorageEnglish
3·7 months agoThank you for the details. We have district heating here and no EV, that makes a big difference! We use about 15MWh of district heating each year but less than 2MWh of electricity. Our house is from the 70s, but have decent insulation, could be better though

2·7 months agoI’m curious, do you know how much you use for heating, cooling and the EV? I supposed those are the big differences to my household.

15·7 months agoInteresting. They could supply my household for 20 years on a full charge. I’m missing a count on how many households they can supply with sun power during the night. Also how does this hold up vs. kinetic storage? (pumping water uphills) Seen from a global perspective storing power in li-ion seems bonkers, since it would probably drive lithium prices up to a point where it’s no longer economically viable, but ofc. they sit on much of the supply chain over there…

Science@beehaw.org•New hope for repairing eye damage once thought untreatable - Harvard Gazette
6·1 year agoCool. I was of the understanding that a big part of the corneal damages leading to vision loss was due to vascularization. I was missing some perspective on that in the article.

I just bought an old thinkpad (x280) and i’m delighted how much lighter it is than my 16” mbp
