Technically, it’s not live booting. It’s normally installed, just on an external drive. The OS doesn’t feel the difference. You just chose to boot to it from the BIOS. I set it to always boot to Linux by default and Windows as a fallback.

This. They wanted to libre-wash their software. But by using the AGPL, they have essentially sabotaged themselves successfully, to our benefit.

On my work laptop I boot to Aurora Linux from an USBC caddy with an M2 SSD inside. The laptop’s internal drive is still factory fresh.

Ask your IT guy, he might be cool with that. The laptop itself is unchanged. Windows OEM license untouched.

The few I’ve seen were so small and new that I forgot about them. I remember one detail though, he was developing a jmap based email client and it’s code was on GitHub. On the server side he was using Stalwart.
