Nice. Looks like a good alternative. Its first release is only a month old (or new). I first thought this is a fork, but looks like a new project. And its completely written in Bash instead Go. Its a wrapper script around asciinema and tmux. It is quiet new and it uses constructs such as rm -f -- "$_SVHS_TEMP_CAST" without extensive checking if this is okay to do so, which I am not a fan of. But I don’t see anything else worrying about.

Note for any reader who might not know this. FSR 1 is a more traditional upscaler, no Ai involved. And this can be used universally on any game and image without the game to have to support this explicitly. FSR1 is also builtin into the Steam Deck. AMD started using Ai and changed the entire upscaling technology since FSR2, because it could not compete on the visual and performance level of DLSS upscaler from Nvidia.

On the left side of the window you can switch to “Online Files”. By default it is set to “Local Files”, I think. Maybe that’s the “issue”?

But that is most likely documented, right? This is not a surprise. Does it download Chrome from the web or is it a dependency on the system and installs it without permission? Does it inform the user doing that? I never installed Invidious myself, so I don’t know the details about this project.

My point is, in example a tool to log your key presses is not automatically a bad tool that steals what you type. If I use a program that’s the entire point of doing my key presses recording and showing me on screen, then I’m not surprised it can do that.

I’m not really deep into Kdenlive (or video editing) and have no idea. Does this have anything to do with the Markers at Gaps feature?

Not comprehensive and at this scale of SteamDB, not that I know of any. I know https://www.steamspy.com/ and https://steamcharts.com/ , but those are not full replacements for SteamDB.

Before reading their statements, I would have thought that either Microsoft or Valve themselves could have purchased SteamDB. Especially Valve, so that many of these early leaked data could be prevented if controlled correctly. I think better quotes that explain why this is done are:

I don’t think there are wrong questions, if they meant to be curious and no trolling. But besides that, my refined question (you reply to) is actually what you suggest. Because to me, this is not really in the spirit of Open Source. But, if you don’t like this question in the form I asked, I mean your suggestion is pretty much what I question myself (and its more direct).

Agreed. I understand that, but my question wasn’t meant to be a technical one. It was more like “is this still spirit of Open Source, if the core application is not part of the source, and it does all of that without permission”. At least those Windows tools you mention, are using part of the operating system without doing something without permission (hopefully).

Ai tool isn’t a proof, so this cannot be used in definitive tests. The absence of something is not proof it isn’t there, you just didn’t found it. On the other side, it cannot proof you have an issue, it can just find signs of, so a real doctor have to look into it for proof. I do not think this can be used for insurance, even if the tool was quiet accurate in finding signs.

https://github.com/asciinema/asciinema is an alternative almost as much popular as vhs. I used it in the past after removing vhs, but its years ago and don’t know how they actually compare. Someone recommended this in the comments few weeks ago, I had completely forgotten about it. I recommend asciinema instead vhs, if you want record and playback terminal sessions without videos involved. I mean they live and work there, and all business and contracts are done there. This is not an individual who can react and just go to a different country to live on, its affecting everyone in the company and all partners. Off course they have to comply if the law goes through. I personally don’t blame them that they are prepaired for such a case, and do not downplay their work and fight because of that.
