I’m not the person you’re replying to, but I’m guessing it’s for Google Photos storage. It’s the reason I pay for Google One.
Mmm, coffee. ☕

“Compact powerhouse” caught my attention. Unfortunately, “compact” is a 6.36 inch screen.
I will never forget the time I saw my classmate clean his glasses by licking them. It wasn’t a small lick. The lenses were covered in his saliva afterwards. 🤮
TIL there’s an organization called Mopria that develops universal printing standards. As a computer geek who works in the tech industry, I’m surprised I’ve never heard of this before.
I was moderately intrigued by this story until I got to that part. The headline is correct but kind of misleading. I’m sure many people will read it and think Firefox can now run Chrome extensions directly.
I used the credit on a Google One subscription. It gives me additional Google Drive space which I can share with my family.
This is awesome! Is there any way to share the login information between the different user interfaces? In other words, can you make it so that we don’t have to re-login on each interface?
Nice! I’m super happy with this release because it fixes two major annoyances with the previous version.
The other UI tweaks are nice too. Lemmy is becoming a really good website and I am grateful to you guys for hosting this instance.
I’m not a morning person. I wake up late and go to bed late, so I actually never eat in the morning.
This page shows which instances we have blocked: https://lemmy.ca/instances
Yeah, you know something is wrong when All + Hot is full of posts from 6 days ago.
EDIT: I don’t know if there was a server update last night, but Hot and Active are giving me much fresher results now.
I’m not sure if this is the correct place to bring this up, but I’ve noticed a discrepancy in the comment counts between instances. For example, a post on lemmy.ml shows 26 comments, but I only see 21 when viewing it from lemmy.ca. The missing comments seem to be from users from multiple instances including lemmy.ml, kbin.social and lemmy.fmhy.ml
Lemmy.ca link: https://lemmy.ca/post/793243
Lemmy.ml link: https://lemmy.ml/post/1401407
EDIT: People on other instances are seeing the same thing, so it seems to not be an isolated issue.
“AdGuard – Mobile App Banners” does the trick too.
I believe they were coming from an instance called lemmynsfw.com. I saw it on the All home page.
Thanks for the explanation. I think everything is pretty clear now, including the purpose of that rainbow button above every comment. This Fediverse thing is really cool and I look forward to exploring more of it.
Interesting. I appreciate hearing your perspective as an admin!
Does federated content get stored on your server permanently or will it eventually “age out”? For example, if Lemmy.ml shuts down permanently tomorrow, will Lemmy.ca still have all that federated content a decade from now?
Back to the “no porn” rule, does it apply only to content that is uploaded to this server or are we also not allowed to link to off-site content? (For the record, I don’t plan on doing any NSFW stuff here. I’m just curious.)
I’ve been interested in the Fediverse for a long time but didn’t have any reason to jump into it because the applications I was aware of did not appeal to me. If I don’t use Twitter and Instagram, why would I be interested in Mastodon and Pixelfed? This all changed when Reddit announced their API change. Reddit is the only social media site I use, so Lemmy seems like the perfect reason to jump in.
No! I recently started going back to the office, so the Google One VPN was an easy way for me to bypass the restrictions on my company’s Wi-Fi network.
