Instances are like subreddits where the mods are top level admins, and there is no central admin above them. Anyone who wants to create an instance can host their own server. Communities can be duplicated between instances so you could have dozens of c/gaming communities rather than a single community for a topic which stifles engagement a bit. The cost of hosting is paid by the admins of an instance or by donations. Sponsors and ads are not currently feasible.
Unmoderated instances allow any new instance’s content to be displayed for their users.
Yeah invasive species are bad regardless of how cute they are. In the aquarium hobby pretty much all of the coolest species are invasive. I’m not completely happy about banning imports for the hobby, but I still support it. That’s just the cost of being a responsible pet owner.
They can still hunt and provide safety to other cats which can reproduce. Trap and release is better than nothing for sure.
While cats are inarguably cool, they are also one of the greatest human-caused dangers to life on our planet. They did the right thing.
He just like me fr.
He gets a pass on this one though. His sister’s large breasts are quite admirable.
I would find that fish that developed lungs and kick its ass.
Grownups and grownups 2. Definitely two of the movies of all time.
The code reads: moderate your own instance however you like.
Defederation is one-way. An instance you defederated with still has access to your instances posts.
People who speak English as a second language are able to engage with a platform in which the majority of users speak English. People who only speak English or that and their local language are unable to engage with a platform where the language used is not their own or English.
More people are able to communicate with a shared language than with languages which are not mutually understood.
One other factor contributes: the U.S. has a large population which shares both a language and some culture. While multiple other countries may share languages, the populations which share a similar level of culture are smaller.
Then you have posts on social media being ranked in some way by engagement. One post may be relatable to 100k people, and five other posts are relatable to 20k each. The single post is ranked higher.
You can still read posts witjout federation. And you could still comment on theirs within your home instance. You just wouldn’t be able to post within their instance.
There is no objective purpose to life. Having a hobby is a popular way to enjoy the limited time available.
The name comes from the USSR’s practice of deploying tanks to crush dissent.
Whitelist federation is one strategy. Rather than defaulting to federation with every instance a proactively moderated instance would only federate with approved requests.
The internet is not something you just dump something on.
Not sure if that was a joke or a sincere lack of familiarity. What tankies want is a restoration and supremacy of the USSR to spread what they called communism.
For a healthy diet make sure to only eat reasoned rebuttals sparingly. You should get most of your nutrition from name calling. /s
Each level of argument has a purpose. Know your audience and use whatever is most effective. You’re not going to get anywhere calling a doctor a poopyhead just as you won’t accomplish anything by presenting facts to a conspiracy theorist.
Your audience will be most effectively convinced by logic, emotion, or authority. It should be pretty simple to figure out which one to use.
In some contexts arguing is synonymous with conflict.
Facebook. Simple as.
