The worst is when rich people interview other rich people about their rich person thing (e.g. Ivanka Trump purchasing an island), so that poor people can watch it on television. That level of narcissism and arrogance is just fucking astonishing to me. You can be rich and also just shut the absolute fuck up about it.

Technology@beehaw.org•As A.I. Makes Strides in Mathematics, Mathematicians Urge Caution
2·4 days agoI made Claude work around this by having it write a Python script to use instead that split the letters and provided a count. A script I could’ve written myself, for a task that’s completely pointless.
The map tells us where to throw the bricks and install signal disruption tools.

8·6 days agoBest behavior for the cameras. While we find ways to hack the system, scramble facial recognition, create alternative spaces they can’t touch, etc. We’re not going to broadcast how we circumvent their constant onslaught of creeper bullshit.

10·10 days agoI love my GL.iNet router. It runs OpenWRT. I swapped to it a few months ago after getting a service upgrade and having my ISP try to force an Eero upon me.
Edit: they sell mobile routers too iirc (saw your other message).

Technology@beehaw.org•Websites have a new way to spy on visitors: Analyzing their SSD activity
3·11 days agoI wonder if you could setup a virtual drive that gets picked up as an SSD and then automate and randomize everything that happens within it so it’s just noise. The problem is that this hack probably gives insight into every drive on the system, so the exploit would still grab that data; it would just run alongside the bullshit stream of data.
Can you list the good parts of capitalism? If you say the free market, capitalism doesn’t have a monopoly on that concept. Socialism and communism have free market aspects too, but they centralize control of resources so that 5 people can’t drain everything and ascend to the top.

So cute! Hooray for pasta and food-based pet names!
They could also shut the fuck up for like five minutes but nope. We get the Met Gala instead. Rich people parading around on TV for poor people to watch. It’s insane how mentally deranged all of it is.
I nominate Macaroni!

I guess when you have no knowledge of engines and your car doesn’t have one, you have to fixate on other stuff. Shame they don’t fixate on the fact that they’re driving mass surveillance tools.
I saw a gearhead on YouTube refer to a Tesla as an “appliance” and thought that was great.

Technology@beehaw.org•More than half of all Polymarket "long shot" bets on military action pay off
34·1 month agoYou’d have to be incredibly stupid to not be able to see how easily gamed this whole thing is. All it takes are insiders to submit “outlandish” bets on things they know are going to happen. Like… this is the stupidest pipeline for upward wealth shift there is right now. You’d have to be 100% devoid of intelligence to be a working class participant.
Something like 70% of all Polymarket bets are won by roughly 0.04% of the users. It’s the same capitalists winning every time, while working class folks lose their shirts.
Everything in the US is a massive unhinged, unregulated grift now. This is a scam economy in a scam country.
More Perfect Union video about this.

4·1 month agoI wish I knew how to do this back in the day. In the early to mid 2000s, I was getting free internet by uninstalling and reinstalling NetZero. It would never check to see that it had already been previously installed and the days were used up. Probably could’ve gone the route you did instead.

I have an old iPad Mini that is long outside the support deadline for Apple. It’s using AltStore instead now, but when I tried to install a patched version of Spotify, the app and even the web app, completely blocked both the OS version and the WebKit version. I can’t even use the web version of Apple Music on it. The amount of artificial locks these companies use is annoying as fuck.
