18·4 months agoIt’s also weird to single out electricians when it’s the construction companies themselves that are being dragged across the globe to the few places that will auto stamp new data centers. There’s a private compound in the Western US that doesn’t allow reporters and is blowing millions to bring workers in from thousand of miles away. Rumor is local crews weren’t considered because they’d be more likely to report environmental concerns in their own backyard.

4·4 months agoIt’s not a popular answer but you can get by with an older PC running Linux KVM. Windows 11 is fine as a guest OS, unless you need kernel level DRM from some applications.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•What's your favourite OS that does not use systemd?
4·1 year agoI wonder how far we are from CI drivers ala Nix that fork builds out to idle hardware like a distributed torrent network. As someone with three out of tree modules in use, there must be dozens of us I’d like to think.

1·3 years agoAs someone who hated the trailer back at release but enjoyed Rat Race later on DVD, I see both sides. If you’re expecting a satire, it’s not cohesive enough. It’s full of many great gags, however, and might be more comparable to Dumb & Dumber. Personally I find the acting too good to resist and still watch it occasionally.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are cold showers actually better for you than hot showers?
1·3 years agoMost people here don’t have water heaters; cold water is the norm. Some take a hot bath now and then, for aches and such. Most say hot water is harder on their skin. Personally I haven’t found a noticeable difference.

Walled garden makes it sound like a place someone maintains for communal pleasure. Lobster trap makes me picture someone caged for sale. Delicious lobster.
Yeah, seems like a bunch of instances getting the ol’ death hug right now

The only bare Win10 I got left has no auto network connection. It’s still surprises me that it doesn’t turn itself on in the middle of the night for updates so I see whatever I left running a month ago the last time it fell asleep. Yesterday I was trying to install device drivers on a Win11 vm and it rebooted mid install when I stopped looking for two minutes. Granted nothing broke but why do I get prompted about file explorer being opened for a user started reboot but an installer is considered killable? Such consistent design I can tell.
