I jumped off Reddit’s cliff and landed here just like many other Lemmings.

  • Diesel is equivalent to 2 €/Liter in Australia right now. Given that the country runs on diesel, its a nightmare. Even the few people who don’t own cars are hurting, because the ships that bring in food run on diesel, the trucks and trains that bring the food from the ports to the rest of the country run on diesel. The grain producers and cattle farms, some of which are the size of small countries, all run on diesel. The cost of diesel is hitting everyone.

  • I carry a Linux phone in my normal pocket, not my other one.

The camera doesn’t work, I don’t have any problem with apps but I am probably not a typical user in that regard, but my 5000mAh battery lasts me a day and ends on 30-40%, which is reasonable but not nearly as good as Android. My family members complain I sound like I’m underwater when I call them and the phone crashes every morning when I take it off the charger.

Linux phones are a wonderful promise but require a lot of comprimises. I hope they improve soon

  • Perhaps not stability, but certainly the ability to understand a problem and fix things is why I use Linux. On Windows or MacOS you just get “Oops, something unexpected happened”, or if youre lucky “Error -2847”.

On linux you can read the journalctl or have a poke in /var/log/ and actually find an answer that’s more helpful than “reinstall the operating system / program”

  • Apparently this is an unpopular opinion on Lemmy but - I like cars? Cars are fun. You can learn so much working on them and restoring them. Learn to weld, learn to build engines and gearboxes, learn to paint, learn how to do wiring. And at the end of it after all that blood, sweat, and tears - you have something fun you can drive about in!

Why does everybody here hate on my hobby so much? Its like the one thing I have in this world. Let me enjoy it.
