4·3 years agoI read “Latex” LaTeX
Ah, I understand. But couldn’t you just implement the unpredictable colors, you are trying to achive client-side, without hashing, say random order of colors?
Ah, I see. I was using Thunder, every username has the same format (username only, no @ after or in front). True for the website though.
The full user adress should suffice for the hash, because there is only one [email protected], for example.
Also, do you really need a hash? Isn’t there a simpler alternative, developing an app?
I don’t know how it looks like with display names, but I am pretty sure same happens when the user is on your instance.

7·3 years agoI just want to say that you have invested the 2h not only for Lemmy. It took me minutes for this account because I was already familiar with the Fediverse. If you want to switch within the Fediverse in the future, I’m sure it will be easy for you•

8·3 years agoGenerally, you do not need multiple accounts on different lemmy servers. You can “use” the other servers with one account. And, that you have multiple different servers, is by design.
Or are you referring to defederation, when you are writing about “seperation”?

10·3 years agoMaybe Lemmy won’t be the right fit in the longer run, although development seems pretty good currently.
Whats more important to me is, how the adoption of ActivityPub evolves and the Fediverse developes in the long run.
Still, the cheaper one is the right choice sometimes.

19·3 years agoI am a bit split. I too find it a bit annoying to scroll past 80% of the posts. On the other hand, sometimes I see that there are new comments (which lemmy shows) under a post about an interesting topic.

Technology@beehaw.org•Elon Musk Says Twitter Is Going To Get Rid Of The Block Feature, Enabling Greater HarassmentEnglish
0·3 years agoRecently, here on lemmy, someone explained Usenet in its days, and said that you yourself couldn’t block others, but only ask the ISPs to. Isn’t that “social” without being able to block others?
Besides, I feel like @[email protected] didn’t want to suggest that you were not able to block others in the past, just stating what he assumed you meant, without evaluating.
Yes, your account would be gone.
I know that its pretty normal for Mastodon server operators to publicly commit themselves to anouncing that they are going to shut down, so users can take action accordingly (Was it 90 days, not sure?).
Additionally, Mastodon has a functionality that lets you transfer your account to a new server you choose, while keeping your followers and followings.
Lemmy doesn’t have a similar functionality. I suppose this is something in the works. Ideally you would take your community subscribtions with you (instead of followers/-ings).
