  • I’ve just gone through this pain with my company. It took 14 months to finally get rid of the app and the pushback from users was horrendous.

We eventually broke the app to the point that all it did in the end was show a page that made users open the site in their mobile browser and use the “Add to home page” feature present in mobile Safari, Chrome and Firefox to put an icon on the homepage like an app.

Absolutely worth it though to not have to deal with Apple’s developer hostile and shitty app tools/ecosystem while paying for the privilege. I don’t miss having to deal with the “moving target” nature of Android and iOS either where everything breaks or has a new API every 5 minutes. Mobile browsers are so capable now with javascript APIs to access most of the device hardware so apps really aren’t as necessary as they once were.

  • Nonsense. It’s simply that that kind of conduct is deeply unprofessional and reflects poorly on Linus. He could have said the exact same things about the issues with that patch without the obscenities and personal attacks.

I’ve worked as a software team lead for nearly 30 years, you do not get the best out of people by belittling and berating them.

  • This is “who invented the sandwich” all over again when what we really mean is “who named the sandwich”. We credit the Earl of Sandwich for the invention, but sandwiches have existed for as long as bread has. I mean there are only so many things you can do with bread and slicing it and putting other food in between is beyond obvious.

    Now I’m hungry.

Do you actually want to work as a cashier?

Of course not - that’s why I don’t use the self service tills. I don’t work for the supermarket and I’m not beeping my own damn shopping.

Not everyone wants a career or an interesting job. Many people just want to work some hours and earn some money and that’s fine.

  • Try to remember that almost half of us did not vote to leave in the first place and knew it was a mistake. The Brexit vote was won on the tiniest of margins mainly due to a criminal misinformation campaign.

There was no mandate in that vote for the UK leaving the single market - something that those liars campaigning for Brexit said that we would never do. I firmly believe that all of the Brexit campaigners should be rotting in prison for the incalculable damage they did to our nation. Many people were tricked into voting against their best interests because they were told that leaving the EU would mean more money for the NHS, or it would protect their daughters from all the Turkish rapists joining the EU next week, or all the other total fucking nonsense the criminal liars told them through Facebook.
