I believe the low seed counts are due to the absolute trash out there. Actual good shows and movies are still strong. Niche items have always been hard to find. But we’re saturated with garbage entertainment these days. No one really cares to seed what they watch once and then never think about again.
First, sandvine calls it an app for legacy reasons, but 100% that is the bit torrent protocol. I have insider knowledge that this is the case. So don’t get hung up on that. But you’re right to doubt them. They are a shell of what they once were. Their fixed deployments are quite small now and do not represent fiber at all, which just hit over 50% in availability in dense US areas. Sandvine is still in Comcast at 100% coverage and in Cox, but they’re tiny. Sandvine is a bit sparse in mobile, but still there solidly. I believe that bit torrent is rare in mobile. Like no shit. I believe them that it’s down in fixed copper (dsl and cable). But they’re missing 100% of fiber. Sandvine does pattern recognition primarily. It used to be great. I suspect it’s still pretty good. They claim better than 90% accuracy. I’m sure the data they have is correct. But what they get from their customers is definitely questionable at times. They’ve made some huge mistakes in the past, grabbing data for too short a period of time or not across a broad enough customer base. I’m sure that’s still the case. What we need is someone like Kentik, Deepfield, and anyone else doing flow correlation to release a report. But they won’t because no company gives away that kind of data anymore. So we’re stuck guessing.
Family first! I thank you for what you’ve done for reddit and sync for lemmy. The app still works great for me. I hope you find happiness in your work and I accept whatever decision you make to continue this at whatever pace suits you. It’s been really fun watching your efforts and enjoying the fruits of your labor over the last decade.
Just pass a damn privacy law already.
Or watch it on YouTube. Or look at it on Facebook. Or whatever.
You’re the product, not a customer.
CCP lies about everything constantly, runs all businesses, and controls the media. This is extremely well documented.
Dell Optiplex… You can buy them used all over still. Find one with a decent processor and upgrade everything else. The fans are easy to find and replace. I’ve got a Linux based MCPC that’s about a decade old that’s still going strong. I’ve got one for my kids with Linux on it. I’ve bought several for elderly relatives and upgraded the ram and drive to ssd. They really just seem to go forever.
Modern phrenology.
Snapchat gave the info to police. From BBC:
On its website, in a section titled “How We Work with Law Enforcement Authorities”, Snapchat says one of its goals is to “maintain a safe and fun environment where Snapchatters are free to express themselves and stay in touch with their real friends”.
It adds: "We also work to proactively escalate to law enforcement any content appearing to involve imminent threats to life, such as school shooting threats, bomb threats and missing persons cases, and respond to law enforcement’s emergency requests for disclosure of data when law enforcement is handling a case involving an imminent threat to life.
If this was done to me spontaneously the waiter would get an additional $5 tip.
My bet is that Dawson was younger and interested in a better app. Probably in college or right out. He had plenty of time and wasn’t making a lot of money. He’s maybe got a wife and kids now. I’m sure he makes really good money at a real job too. The side hustle is something he remembers being fun but now it’s a crappy low paying contract gig. Now it’s a side hustle with diminishing returns.
The best thing he could do is just admit he doesn’t want to do it anymore. Maybe he’s not ready to do that though. Definitely the passion isn’t there anymore, but the nostalgia is still there.
There’s no such thing as modern humor. It’s just the same humor in a modern context. Humans are oddly good at thinking they are smarter and better than previous generations. We’re not. We’ve been exactly the same for thousands of years.
In and out is not high in crypto mining. It’s mostly a cpu/power hog.
Yeah I have insider info. The managers are the same. Most are normal humans that would rather focus on selling the service to someone that wants it. Charter is a complete mess right now. People are fed up with the terrible upper management.
I’ve had my blendtec for like 12 years. It’s got a counter on it for some unknown reason. I just made my morning protein shake. I’m at 5473 uses. My previous blender was an oster that lasted a few years and didn’t work well. I’d previously broken cheap blenders after a few uses. If you use it for more than just mixing up simple things, the vitamix and blentec are worth it. Literally the only reason I picked blendtec is because it fit under my counter. The vitamix was too tall.
Just wear them. The leather softens from use. If they’re dry and stiff, put some leather conditioner on the underside. Maybe you have them too tight. And maybe they’re just not for you.
The employee was gaming the system. If you’re canceling, they’re required to hound you. If you’re moving, it’s just a few clicks with no rebuttal from the system. The employee just didn’t want to hound you because they’re as tired of charter’s crap as you.
Funny they discontinued the Bronco after the associated bad press only to call it’s replacement the Escape!
